According to https://downdetector.com/status/zoom/ there seems to be a pretty massive spike of Zoom issues starting about an hour or two ago. It's not working for me -- no video for anyone and audio only for some. Weird.

(130,112 posts)unless something broke. The normal non-fundie churches are doing online services these days.

(6,261 posts)It's just that there isn't any video except for oneself, audio for about 2/3ds of the participants, the host unlocking key doesn't work and "raising hand" works for only some. Some audio is very choppy too.
It's weird.

(6,261 posts)I was loath to install it myself, but had to bow to the pressures of the group.
Zoom claim to have fixed many of the problems -- your guardian article, at least, is over a month old -- but I remain weary.

(18,402 posts)Sorry, but Zoom is a much better application. (And further, new encryption is coming on new Zoom software May 29; though unless you are keeping company secrets or sensitive political strategy, it really isn't very important. If you're just having cocktail hour with friends or talking to grandma, who cares about security.)
Honestly, had a Google Meeting session on Friday and it was awful in every way.

Google is awful. WebEx Meetings is a distant third; WebEx Taining is a closer second.
When I'm required to use WebEx, I use WebEx training - but otherwise I use Zoom.

(6,261 posts)As far as I know those haven't had problems with Zoombombers.
Actually, I don't even know how Zoombombers find the meetings code to begin with unless it's just by random luck and wardialing.

(13,427 posts)It seemed to be a Zoom issue because the camera was enabled for zoom and was working for other apps.

(38,484 posts)I just got off of a zoom conference with my class. Since it was voluntary and the first one I've held for this class I don't know what normal attendance will be - but only about half of the classs showed up, and one person showed up without video and muted (then left). That was during the peak time for the reported issues.
