“The pot calling the kettle black” is a case of 2 things with a shared attribute where one (the pot) accuses the other (kettle) of that attribute, not realizing that they share that same characteristic. So it would be more like tRump calling Nixon a crook. This case is more like tRump yelling insults at a mirror.
