1. Too many people have died and will die by November.2. Trump's lies are clear to everyone and anyone who dislikes a liar and bully.
3. Trump's stupid behavior is also clear to anyone & everyone who cares about the fact that
we have a stupid, insensitive, and totally ineffective president.
Yes, Trump might get 25 percent,33 percent or 40% of vote. Yes, he has a "cult." Nevertheless, Trump will not get reelected because of 1,2, & 3.

(6,147 posts)You may find yourself deleted. Insulting Bernie supporters is insulting people in the Democratic Party who fairly voted for him in the primaries. They are part of the Party. Be civil.

I don't even get it.
But there are people who believe that the two were equivalent, because both were not interested in dismantling corporate control of politics, and that was their litmus test. Their ONLY litmus test.
Right now, if they admit that Trump was worse, I accept it and move on. What is done is done.
Aristus
(66,316 posts)Belief is when someone else does the thinking. They didn't want to think; they just allowed unscrupulous people to do their thinking for them.
Anyone who genuinely thought Trump would 'dismantle corporate control of politics' doesn't have two brain cells to rub together.
qwlauren35
(6,147 posts)The belief was that neither Hillary nor Trump would dismantle corporate control, so it didn't matter who you voted for - it didn't matter who won.
As I said. I do not agree. But I have people in my life who think that both parties are the same, both parties' candidates are bought and paid for by corporations, both parties are only going to allow changes that don't hurt the 1% and our corporations. For example, neither party is willing to dismantle the health insurance system. Neither party is pushing for tax reform that forces corporations to pay taxes.
The Democratic party platform goes a long way in helping the average Joe and Jane, and I support it. But I am not unaware that their loyalties include corporations and lobbies. Heck, I fund NARAL, so I must believe in lobbies!
I see three approaches. Do nothing, work within the system, change the system. Bernie supporters wanted to change the system, and anyone who did not want to change the system was unacceptable... and equally bad.
I'm starting to come around to the idea that the system needs to change. But I will find another way to do it. Bernie's way was not working for me, and I'm not going to burn down my house before I build my mansion.

Priorities.
Our 2016 voter profiles are exactly alike, except I voted for Hillary with pride instead of holding my nose. In 2020, the difference is, I knew Bernie couldn't win the nomination, so I supported Kamala Harris's effort. I'm not going to write in her name on my ballot, or stay home and sulk on Election Day just because she didn't get the nomination.
Priorities.
We need to get Trump out of the office the Bernie supporters helped him into, and Biden is the guy to do that. No more 'holding our noses'. If one supports Trump, one should just come out and say so. Too many people have suffered in the last four years for me to feel tender towards the hurt feelings of the Bernie-types.

"I'll stand by [you] but if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen."

(81,220 posts)See, that's what I simply am not able to understand - why ANYBODY would feel like they had to hold their nose to vote for Hillary. What on earth was so doggone horrible about her? Seriously! I just don't get it.
I'm one who still fails to understand why anybody would feel the need to do that - to hold their nose to vote for such a magnificent, brilliant, courageous, experienced, highly capable, and ground-breaking candidate, especially regarding the advancement of women and the leveling of the playing field. And evidently enough others thought that, too, because she did win the popular vote. She was cheated and robbed, as were we all. I think that's WAY obvious by now, or at least it should be.
Her fight made it possible for multiple other capable, brilliant, experienced women to be taken seriously in their own efforts to reach that high, this time around. Her fight made it possible for there to be solid discussion of a woman on this year's ticket, albeit in the VP position, not the top spot. But even that wouldn't be happening right now if it hadn't been for Hillary. Somebody was going to have to kick that door open, and she had the guts to take the risk and go first. Her fight made it plausible, realistic, and acceptable, for America to have a female Vice President. It's something we actually can wrap our brains around, this year, because she paved the way four years ago. Her fight takes me back to the stirring, thunderous words of Dr. King referencing the quest for the Promised Land and the struggle for civil rights - "...I might not get there with you, but..." Any woman candidate in the future who does earn the keys to the Oval Office, or even the Vice President's residence, will have her to thank.
To this very hour, indeed, even as I write this post, I am STILL at a loss to understand the Hillary hatred or resentment or whatever. It's just not logical, reasonable, sensible, or comprehensible to me, and also deeply disappointing. I've heard and read all the arguments and the protestations and the rationalizations for it. Yet it remains a mystery to me. It still doesn't make any sense to me, and frankly never has. And at this point, I doubt it ever will.
luv2fly
(2,475 posts)Thank you calimary. I'd love to see a woman as president, and after Bernie my next two choices were Elizabeth Warren and then Amy Klobuchar. It's going to happen one day, and I firmly believe America will be both a stronger as well as a kinder place.

Some people voted for third parties to send a message to "President" Clinton, and some talked about switching parties to vote for Trump in the primary to ensure we had someone easy to beat.

(34,062 posts)I know Democrats who stayed home in 2016 because they believed Trump was a joke and would never win. I also know Democrats who voted for third party candidates because they wanted to send "President" Clinton a message - because they were so sure she woudl win. I know Democrats who talked about voting in the Republican primary for the express purpose of helping to ensure Trump won the primary because they were so sure he would be easy to beat.
It has nothing to do wtih trying to bring anyone down - it has to do with ensuring that every single voter gets to the polls - and doesn't (as they did in 2016) feel their vote isn't need to ensure Trump is defeated.
Dismissing anyone who does not toe whatever he current party line as "Concern Trolling" is as much a danger to proressive politics as is the Fox news siloing that goes on among conseratives. The party line in 2016 was that Clinton was a slam dunk. Promoting that party line, and condemning anyone who suggested otherwise as a "concern troll," contributed to putting Trump in office in 2016.

They were never embraced, and the GOP foolishly thought they would go away. They didn't, and in fact, they took over the party and the government. The folks in the Republican Party that are disgusted by Trump were never broadcast very loudly because they'd still rather have run the government than attack Trump during his presidency. Trump has been standing in front of the country for 3 &1/2 years.. ..(.Longer if we look at his election and what he promised before the election..)
In those 3 and 1/2 years, Trump has shown himself to be a liar, a bully and incompetent. By now, everyone has an attitude about him. We have seen him on TV, in the newspapers, on radio, magazines..etc.
After watching him for 3 & 1/2 years people see he is a liar, bully and incompetent, but during this crises, that has killed 90,000 people as of today...........
