I know San Diego is a bit conservative and has a large military presence. I hope this crowd isn't as big as it seems. We cannot lose California, as many in the comments are hoping.

(46,045 posts)It's a long line, but only one or two deep. Toward the end, it really stretches out.
Southern California (except for LA) is notoriously red. This would have been a tiny trickle compared to the first women's march in Oakland, and there was an even larger one the same day just across the bay in SF. Trump is not winning California.
Also, bear in mind that the Republican Party is so unpopular in California it's been virtually eliminated from holding any power at all.
John Fante
(3,479 posts)Southern California outside of Los Angeles is redder than people realize, but overall it still leans comfortably blue.

(11,738 posts)The Democratic Party just simply elected supermajorities in both houses of the legislature for the past couple of elections. I mean, we did send assholes like Darryl Issa and do send assholes like Devin Nunes to Congress but that is Fresno, and Issa's old seat is now represented by a Democrat.

Clinton took SD county by 20 percentage points
chia
(2,244 posts)how it's mainly blue on the coast, mainly red inland. Because there's more population as you go toward the coast, blue predominates (thankfully) but it wasn't always so. I think 2008 was the first time in my memory that SD county went blue.

Any decent politician would strongly disavow the support of this hate group, but Trump says they're "great people".

(11,738 posts)There are always idiots in every jurisdiction, but the Republicans in California have been a marginal party for at least the last decade. They will win elections here and there but California will not send a Republican Senator or President to the White House for a long long time.

(51,590 posts)I have attended here (over 25 on the past 3 years). They are NOT the majority! Half of them are related to the red neck areas like Santee (those 2 idiots wearing KKK hoods and swastika masks at supermarkets were both from there).
"In 2008, Barack Obama became the first Democratic presidential candidate to win a majority of votes in San Diego County since World War II; he won a majority of county votes again in 2012. In 2016, Hillary Clinton won the county by almost 20%, the largest margin for a Democratic presidential candidate since 1936."
"The city of San Diego itself is more Democratic than the county's average and has voted for Democrats Clinton, Gore, Kerry, Obama, and Clinton respectively, in the last seven presidential elections. With a few exceptions, areas close to the Mexican border tend to be more Democratic, while North County tends be more Republican."

It's small, but loud.

(3,282 posts)don't.
When you have an area with 10s of millions of people nearby, it's not hard to get a big crowd for pretty much anything.

San Diego went to Hillary by 18 points and it's likely bluer now.
