1) He really is taking it, in which case we'll find out soon enough.

2) As per your take, he's been given "hydroxychloroquine" piles that are really just placebos to placate him while not feeding him poison.

3) He's just lying.

#3 has branches:

3a) He's lying just because he has some financial interest in a HCQ supplier,

3b) He's lying just to not admit he was wrong,

3c) Both of the above, omitting the "just"s. They're not mutually exclusive.
