Apparently, the contact tracing thing is a conspiracy for the govt to track us and then force vaccinations (which we are NOWHERE NEAR creating)
I told a friend that I had applied for a contract tracer job (online at home work, and pays $17/hr) I was actually pretty stoked since I ahve been on & off disability for the last 2 years and really need to find a real gig and hopefully bring in some real income.
She FREAKED (now mind you, this person is a super-hippie, but also very controlling and a bit of a snob since she is a trust fund baby and doesn't have to work AND is willfully ignorant to a degree, she is NOT at all into the news and she laughs at me for even watching just ONE show like rachel..so yeah)
She told me if I download the government "App" to make sure I delete her out of my ohone and everything cuz she doesn't wanna be tracked like that
??? wtaf?
I guess since the virus is already "out there" she believe in herd immunity and all that and thinks somehow the virus is being made worse so the govt can track us and get our dna and then force vaccinations.
How fucking crazy is this?
Aren't contact tracers really IMPORTANT in a freaking Pandemic?
I guess she's one of those that think it's "just a virus"
but she still wears a mask at least
she says we all just need to wash our hands more
I don't know how I am her friend anymore sometimes...

(25,962 posts)it's about finding her and contacting her to let her know if someone else has contracted the virus and she is otherwise unaware that they may have exposed her to it? This is so she can self-quarantine to protect her loved ones so that she doesn't expose them too, etc.
It's a no-brainer. It stops the spread. I am little miss privacy nut, and even I understand this is a good thing. She sounds supremely underinformed as to what contact tracing really means in this context.
Good for you for applying for the job. More contact tracing is needed everywhere ASAP. I hope you get it!

(13,360 posts)I understand the idea/concept
I would actually be using my customer service and people skills to contact others and tell them something very scary...it's really important, and also requires some big compassion and also the ability to talk to strangers
I hope I get the job too, I need the cash and would like to think I am "helping" in this mess...

(8,038 posts)I have a friend who's been a conspiracy theorists as long as I've known her (over 20 years). There are topics that we stay away from when we talk on the phone.
She knows better but recently (since COVID-19) she started in with me about what you're talking about. It seems as though Bill Gates is "The Anti-Christ" seeking to de-populate the world. There are so many other absolutely UNBELIEVABLE things that she and others' believe. She doesn't even know that a lot of these people are affiliated with:
QAnon[a] (/kjuːəˈnɒn/) is a far-right conspiracy theory detailing a supposed secret plot by an alleged "deep state" against U.S. President Donald Trump and his supporters.
She said Obama was going to put chips in all of us when he was working on the Affordable Care Act. She follows people like David Icke, David Wilcock, David Rose, etc.
She's always been anti-government (but not like a Republican anti-government). She believes the Democrats and Republican are all the same. THANK THE LORD IN HEAVEN SHE DOESN'T VOTE! And, she doesn't go to any of the protests or rallies that the anti-mask people are attending.

(13,360 posts)SOMEONE SOMEWHERE fed her this stuff...she even went as far as to say she might not even doubt the Bill Gates wanting to microchip everyone thing...
But she's a "liberal" I thought?
and yeah, she's an anti vaxxer but I also have my own reasons to worry about immune system stuff
and though we are different parenting types, (I used to think she had her shit together more than me..But my teens are doing way better in thriving so yea)
now I am even second guessing that too
I thought this as an actual rational friend
we dig the same music and have raised kids as mom friends for a decade or so
now I wanna slap her for being so stupid lol

(17,152 posts)It has absolutely nothing to do with going through your contact list.
Therefore, if someone using COVIDSafe is diagnosed with COVID-19, health officials can use the patient's app data to quickly notify people they've been in contact with. The hope is that this will help contain outbreaks and slow the spread of the coronavirus.

(25,848 posts)I dunno, but I'd appreciate a phone call (or however they do it, text message, email, whatever) that tells me that some specific someone I've been in contact with has been diagnosed with this virus.
I will say that I'm a senior citizen, age 71. I mostly stay at home. I have two different sets of friends I see. One is a mother and daughter who live together, and we do a card game/board game night once a week or slightly less. The other is my friend Robert. In the past we'd get together once a week or so, go on a drive (he loves to drive, I love to ride) and then have lunch somewhere. Since this Corona Virus thing we have very rarely gotten together. In the beginning he didn't seem to want to get together, but more recently is willing to do so since neither one of us sees very many other people.
He did come over to my house today as I could lend him some books to read. He got to meet my new cat. We didn't hug as we would have in the past, which is a bit of a shame as we are probably very safe doing so. But both of us would rather err on the side of caution.
In a completely unconnected post, I live on a cul-de-sac, actually it's a kind of double cul-de-sac. Picture the Greek letter Pi and you know my neighborhood. Anyway, in recent weeks when I see a neighbor I tell them that at some point in the future, when all of this is over, we'll have a block party. I do emphasize that this will be a long way in the future, but we can look forward to it.
What I love is that the neighbors all think this is a great idea.
Maybe, just maybe, at the end of summer we can do this with social distancing. Maybe. If it takes longer, that's okay with me. I hope it is with the neighbors.

(23,338 posts)... "they" still know. It'll remain in the cloud, where her contact information will be flagged as "intentionally deleted, very suspicious".
And, be sure to tell your friend, if she cashes that $1200 check, she gives up all rights of protection from the deep state.
