The first word out of Sec. Mnuchins mouth at today's Banking Hearing?
Not workers, not families liquidity.
Families dont want to hear about liquidity and financial double-speak, they want to hear how this administration will keep them safe when they go to work.

"How many workers should give their lives to increase our GDP by half a percent?" is a hell of a question, just now, from @SenSherrodBrown to Secretary Mnuchin. - Mnuchin called the question unfair.

The "WE" dear America is you, me, everyone who pays taxes. That's who "take the losses" not Mnuchin, tRUMP.
They will "cover the losses" by Raising Taxes, and cutting benefits.

(16,719 posts)And they have had massive corporate giveaways and tax cuts to crate the big hole. The upper 1-10% will be doing great. The rest of us will struggle mightily, but the 50% of Americans who have nothing will suffer like we have not seen since the 30's. And to some degree, it is intentional. As Warren Buffet said: "It is class warfare, and we're winning."

(21,417 posts)but I think some civil unrest is inevitable. I don't think many people have admitted the reality of this to themselves, even though at some level they fear that it might be true. That's understandable. It's not a pleasant thought. But Trump has got to go. He cannot win a fair election, so he will rig it or refuse to accept a loss if he doesn't have enough votes.
Trump has no intention of ever leaving office, no matter what. So Americans will either have to accept him as lifetime dictator or physically force him out of office if he doesn't win - or if he wins fraudulently. I never thought I'd see this in America.

(21,417 posts)and a majority of the people believed in the principles and institutions. Same as in past history. Rome remained a functioning republic so long as the leaders and people remained committed to it.
There were leaders who opposed Caesar's seizure of power and killed him for it. But the republic crumbled when others saw their opportunity and no one stopped them.
No one stopped Trump. Not his own party and not the will of the people. When a society and its leaders turn inward to themselves and lose a sense of unified community, it crumbles under self interest.
There have been too many contributing factors to getting to where we are today to go into it now. My concern now is whether it's reversible with enough people are reacting against Trump. It could be too late for even a large numbler of votes to succeed in putting him out of office since he will use any and all power to stay in place.
Such civil unrest, no matter how it turns out in the end, could be too destructive to salvage the institutions and principles being destroyed now. Even if Trump goes without a fight, the weaknesses in the system that he has exposed will have to be addressed in new legislation and amendments.

I'm getting damned tired of it.

can miss the connection between financial crises and collapses and the Rs on the one hand and the Dem cleanup on the other. But they do, every time. As soon as things get cleaned up an smoothly running, some R convinces the people that the economic rules are no longer necessary and we start all over again from square one.
