I'm going a bit off-topic but this when the defense mechanisms kick in: Fake news, that's not what he meant, it was a joke, he did it to provoke a response or it was a secret message (like the noble prize). The last one is very popular among the Q cult to explain away every obvious instance of his stupidity. His lies work because his followers want to believe it.
But one sign for me to tell that they realize he showed his ignorance or did something embarrassing is when they reply that this is going to trigger the libs or the media. That tells me they know he fucked up and they are looking for excuses.

He can indeed use the dumbest and most transparent tactics and lies to manipulate others into following his madness. So yes, everyone who is expected to believe him should feel insulted. The problem is, his followers are too stupid to realize they are getting conned.
