Just over a week later, the beauty parlor in northeast Oklahoma is closing them again after an employee was infected with the coronavirus.
"We have received a positive COVID-19 test from a staff member who was in the salon on May 5-7," the Bartlesville shop announced in a May 13 post on Facebook. "If you were in the salon on these days you could have been potentially exposed."
.....
Washington County Health Department recommends that any customer that was in the salon during this time self-isolate for 14 days and if symptoms arise to contact Washington County Health Dept for further information and instruction," the salon wrote in its Facebook post. Nailspot plans to reopen on May 26.
.......
The guidelines do not call for either employees or customers to wear masks, suggesting only that employees consider wearing them "if the customer requests."...(more)

(25,242 posts)like a beauty parlor, barber shop, tatoo parlor, etc re-opens is to have a log book on a daily basis of the people that enter that business. Then if someone tests positive - one could check the log book for the other people that frequented the business that day - to be able to contact them and inform them of their exposure. Kind of a form of contact tracing.

(4,448 posts)Since that would create proof for lawsuits purposes.
Kinda sucky but that's the nature of liability laws.

(19,051 posts)It's almost completely ignored now, but a few weeks ago at the White House, business leaders and economists released a statement that said the interests of the economy and interests of health were not at odds. Shutting down was what was best for the economy.
These businesses who have this happen are going to close for good, that salon's brand is dead, when they do reopen no one will go there.

(4,236 posts)Take any restaurant. CV19 shows up there. Who wants to volunteer to go back? Not many would be my guess, MAGAts nonwithstanding.

(19,051 posts)Their brand could be crushed nationwide.

(3,501 posts)In my opinion, you need to have the following for hair, nails, barbers, etc
The employee needs to have a face shield and a KN95 mask
The customer needs a minimum of a face covering (hold it in place when the needed)
Anything less than that is inviting trouble.

(37,999 posts)I have yet to hear a peep from any of those entities, from any of these states that are allowing the re-opening of hair/manicure salons and barber shops.

(82,849 posts)In fact, quite a bit shorter time than the best estimates on the incubation period for the virus. Which may mean that the salon worker was infected asymptomatically for a week or so before the salon re-opened. And, that's the catch of the Covid-19 pandemic: You can be infected and shedding the virus to all those around you for a couple of weeks before you show symptoms.

(68,555 posts)precautions (pedicure). They have liners for the basins and scrum the basin and throw away the plastic lines after each use.
They also have plexi screens up...very well done. Now I will be good for a while...everyone is a mask and gloves including customers who have to wait outside social distancing or they won't be allowed in.

(15,536 posts)I keep them short and neat and no one would ever look at my nails and think they were unsightly. I've never understood paying someone to take care of my nails. But then, I'm pretty frugal.

(6,930 posts)I do not even like going for a haircut, and now that I have learned I can do it myself, I doubt I will ever do that again. But no, never got the mani/pedi thing, though I have a couple friends who are obsessive about it.

(11,949 posts)I work with my hands a lot even though Im a manager. I cut and clean my nails regularly but they are nothing to write home about.
Before the pandemic my wife and had reached the point where we could travel outside of the country yearly.
We get to the airport early and both have manicures. Of course I dont have my nails painted, but they really clean them up and apply a coat to strengthen them. It is really an enjoyable process. Kind of a splurge. And believe me, none of my friends would believe it. And none will ever know!!
But opening them now with no required PPE is crazy.
