Pelosi on calling Trump 'morbidly obese': 'I didn't know that he would be so sensitive'

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Tuesday defended her comment claiming that President Trump could be at greater risk of complications from taking an unproven coronavirus treatment because he is "morbidly obese," adding that she didn't anticipate he would be "sensitive" about his appearance.

"I didn't know that he would be so sensitive. He's always talking about other people's ... their weight, their pounds," Pelosi said during an interview Tuesday with MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace.

"I think he should recognize that his words weigh a ton. Instead of telling people to put Lysol into their lungs or taking a medication that has not been approved except under certain circumstances, he should be saying what your previous guest mentioned — things that would help people," she said, referring to Trump's musings about disinfectants last month.

Trump initially dismissed Pelosi's characterization of his weight earlier in the day, saying, “I don’t respond to her. I think she’s a waste of time.”

But roughly five minutes later, Trump said at a press conference on Capitol Hill in response to an unrelated question that, “Pelosi is a sick woman. She's got a lot of problems, a lot of mental problems.”

was slang referring to excess weight. Wonder how many cowards tried to say they had no idea?

"morbidly obese"
"words that "weigh a ton"
"avoirdupois"

Some people doing this would just be indulging their "low," but she's poking and ridiculing him him as part of a strategy rolled out now for reason. And just what's that, I wonder?

If trumPutin wants to consider it a fat shaming, that's his problem, his way of thinking. Speaker Pelosi is expressing concern and doing it far better than Susan Collins.

applied to him, that sensitivity thing, but absolutely. She might even have brought his risk factors home to him better than that tame physician of his.

Speaking of old people at risk I'd wondered if the senate might belatedly reconsider that "buffet" -style lunch, with Trump coming from the WH to spread his...advice ("toughen up" or you're going to lose in November), and they did. Wonder if that came before or after the media's eyebrow-raising.

He really does not give a flying fck if we call him a murderous bully with blood on his hands.

But an offense to his vanity, especially by a woman, sends him into a rage he cannot control.

Do not ever mistake what Nancy Pelosi is doing for body-shaming or fat-shaming or whatever your personal anxiety is. Just don't. She's better than that and smarter than that.

She's gotten under his skin quite well without fatphobic comments. He got mad after she clapped at him, he got mad after she tore up his SOTU speech, and so on. He gets mad, he tweets, shit continues to happen.

In that case, why not go after his manhood or sexuality? Because I bet he's pretty touchy about that. Maybe if she implied he was gay that would REALLY make him mad, and then...something would happen, I'm sure.

...that Mme Speaker was homophobic and needed to be tossed off the Golden Gate Bridge at low tide. And they would swear to never vote for her again despite not living in her district. And they would swear to send money to her opponent.

I know how these things go at DU.

Perhaps we should let Nancy Pelosi get on with her job, cheer on her successes -- and not take it as a personal insult when she goes after Donald Trump with whatever verbal weapons actually work against the bastard (no offence intended to persons whose parents didn't get married).

ETA: "Morbidly obese" is a medical term I believe. It means a level of overweight that can kill you. Since he is potus, his medical condition really is our business. But he is so vain he literally bribes doctors to keep such discussions out of the public record.

I would object if she engaged in homophobia to needle Trump. I am objecting because she engaged in fatphobia to needle Trump.

I object when leaders help build an atmosphere of acceptance around using immutable traits as some kind of political gotcha, as it makes things much harder for everyday people who have those traits, and affects those in power little to not at all.

But you're right, it's not a bad thing. That's my point. Just like being fat isn't a bad thing. Using sexual orientation to ridicule Trump only strengthens the idea that some sexual orientations are mockable. Using Trump's weight to mock him only reinforces our culture, which sees body size and shape as something moral.

I love it - DJT has finally met someone who can and will put him in his place. I heard he is also trying to bully Ruth Bader Ginsberg into retiring. What DJT doesn't realize is that both of these women are 100 times smarter than he is and they are 100 times more clever. All DJT knows how to do is lie and bully, he is a disgusting piece of humanity and sooooooooooo stupid. I am so proud of Nancy Pelosi and Ruth Bader Ginsberg and Hilary Clinton, too.
