5. I nearly avoided having the full weight of the school disciplinary procedure crash down on me

when I was in high school. The female substitute teacher passed around a list for everyone to put their names by seat locations. I slipped in the name of a nonexistent student: Mike Hunt. When she got the list back, she looked at seats and names and asked at least a couple of times, "where is Mike Hunt? Is Mike Hunt here today?" Laughter made her aware of the ruse, and she rushed red-faced from the room. An inquisition that would have made Torquemada proud ensued. I was thankful to have had the foresight to have altered the way I wrote that name, because, yes, everyone's handwriting was checked.
