Moscow Mitch puts brakes on new coronavirus aid bill in U.S. Congress

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican leaders in the U.S. Congress said on Tuesday they were in no hurry to work on another coronavirus relief package, despite the House of Representatives' passage last week of a $3 trillion measure.

"We need to assess what we've already done, take a look at what worked and what didn't work, and we'll discuss the way forward in the next couple of weeks," Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told reporters after President Donald Trump spoke to a Senate Republican luncheon.

House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy also said he saw no need for another coronavirus bill now, but told reporters he could back lengthening the loan period for small businesses to 10 or 12 weeks from the current eight.

Senate Small Business Committee Chairman Marco Rubio said he hoped legislation could pass this week to alter the loan program helping restaurants and other small enterprises survive prolonged closings during the pandemic.

That's not a good idea at all for the GOP/Trump, at least if they intend to continue their control.

On the ground, things are bad and maybe living in those cushy, ivory towers obscures that fact. Things are going to get much worse for us plebs overall and help is essential now and should be considered bipartisan.

The above point should be made often as far as getting the House package passed. It is a time-sensitive matter and I am sure the stubborn, reluctant, corporately owned GOP can understand that. Not all the loyalty they perceive will hold up when things get really desperate for the people. Practical matters can cut through bad, destructive and mean-spirited ideologies like theirs.

Prevent people from feeding their babes and unable to access meds. Keep this up and the Senate Dems could end up with 67. You've been feeding on anger and hate for a long time and now that you're glutted you may find it turned against you.
