Why do right wingers enjoy being lied to all the time?

Here in the UK two of the Prime Ministers favourite slogans have been “Take back control” and “Get Brexit done”… his right wing mantra on which he placed his bets for the referendum and the last general election. And they worked. Sadly. It was bullshit, bluster and bollocks of course. Yet another thing Boris has in common with Trump. The US is the sick man of the world and the UK is the sick man of Europe in regard to this pandemic and their knee jerk reaction is to just fucking lie straight to our faces. Gaslighting costs lives during Covid times and as the body count rises the fact that they have any support at all, from anyone is mind blowing. In this time of crisis BoJo can neither take back control or get Covid done.

One example in the UK currently is ministers saying, “Right from the start we’ve tried to throw a protective ring around our care homes … we’ve made sure care homes have the resources they need.” JUST A LIE. Not fact based at all, and thousands have needlessly died because they did the opposite of this, but I suppose they think their followers will swallow it. In the US yesterday Trump was calling the number of deaths a ‘badge of honour’ which is not just a LIE, it is also a horrific sentiment. They lie all the bloody time. It is their go to place. It is in their nature to LIE LIE LIE. One can only assume that anyone who supports them, votes for them, defends them, must really enjoy being lied to.

in 2016, too many didn't take it seriously enough to overcome the cheating.

Men who always wanted to grab pussy.

Woman who look their noses down on us regular folk.

Those that lie about sick days at work, where they were last night and how much they paid for whatever.

People who hated school and jobs cuz

They spend their lives in a state of mild persistent cognitive dissonance, with frequent severe exacerbations when some of the more grim facets of reality intrude upon the grim fantasies of their inner world.

When a guy like Trump comes along, and lies all the time to feed their collective mythology, it comforts them. Their lives are materially no better than before, but the pandering helps them to cope with their hopeless lives.

4. They don't care. They want racists who share their views to be in charge. That's all that matters.

Rob them blind. Take away their jobs and health care. Not of that matters to lower and middle class right wingers so long as a racist is in charge. For the upper class, they don’t give a damn if the leader is racist so long as the leader can give them tax cuts or money, regardless of the source. If the leader must be a racist to enable that wealth transfer to them, then they are fine with it.

They are divorced from reality.

We listen to scientists and experts, even if we don't like what we hear.

They live in fantasy land.

They enjoy watching the liar lie and get away with it. It’s what they wish for themselves.

All he has to do is hold an indoor rally, because yelling "lock her/him up" in confined spaces with no mask on spreads the virus a great distance. Trump may even pay a super spreader to attend the rallies. And now, he is taking the death toll as a positive number. It's Jim Jones time for his cult.

Still it is worth doing so, because it rebounds onto the liar, eventually, with enough of them and enough exposure.

Have a lap dog media doesn't help, though.

12. By far most who follow false, lying leaders searched for

leaders who'd tell them what they wanted to hear. The "some (who) can be fooled all the time" are so because they insist on it.

Here and abroad these days of widespread fear and discontent a lot of populist leaders have popped up to harness the negative, anti-government energy. Wannabe leaders know to do that they must feed the signature antagonisms and resentments. If those they're trying to attract aren't turned against the targets they want and promised mobs to join and temples to destroy, they'll find someone else. And none of this can be accomplished without feeding them the lies they came for.

Here of course, though Trump's lies never end and his red-in-tooth-and-claw core of white nationalist followers remain loyal, Trump's desperate to magnify his lies to keep them worked up to, as he imagines, reelect him or enable him to take power anti-democracy populist style.

In contrast, the aggressively antagonistic populists who flocked to our LW class-warfare movement are demonstrating what they require from a leader by abandoning theirs when he turned way down the red-meat rhetoric to join the battle to stop the Republicans. Others who are angry but still with him, lacking another banner to gather under, are flouting his attempts to get them to go quiet on the lies they cherish and lead them against a different target than the one they signed up for.

WaPo: Sen. Bernie Sanders, whose delegates staged a raucous rebellion against Hillary Clinton at the 2016 Democratic convention, is trying to engineer a different outcome this year — by turning down the volume on his social media-driven army of 2020 delegates. ...

Delegates were told they “are expected to follow” the guidelines and that “failure to do so may result in disciplinary action, including but not limited to your removal from the delegation." ... The agreements angered some Sanders delegates, and the campaign is now working with delegates to adjust its demands. ... I think the campaign is trying to avoid, you know, a walkout, or some really bad optics a la 2016,” Liquori said. ...

Zach Thomas, a Sanders delegate in Utah who received the documents, said he was not alarmed by them, but “I could definitely see how others could take it a different way if they are still supporting Senator Sanders and kind of more that movement instead of the party itself.” ...

(I'm wondering how much more visible virtual delegate attention would be compared to the many thousands of angry populists who swamp social media, especially when messages from both the Trump right and the left have the same targets and share many of the same themes, all augmented by Russia. But delegate behavior would be more directly embarrassing to Sanders himself of course.)
