Trump Repeats Unfounded Claims About Mail-In Voting, Threatens Funding To 2 States

(NPR) President Trump on Wednesday escalated his rhetorical campaign against an expansion of mail-in voting amid the coronavirus pandemic by threatening the federal funding to two states with Democratic governors.

Trump appeared to be set off by an announcement the day before from Michigan's Democratic secretary of state, Jocelyn Benson, who said her office will mail an absentee ballot application to every voter in the state for August and November elections.

Trump narrowly won Michigan in 2016, giving him the Electoral College votes needed to become president. Trump is expected to visit the state on Thursday to tour a Ford facility that has been repurposed to make ventilators. ........(more)

He can't really take funding away from states, but he can threaten, and more importantly, he can make bogus claims of all sorts of voter fraud as a result of voting by mail in those states when he loses.

3. He is trying to rebrand or rename absentee ballots as "mail in voting."

It is a fabricated fake "scandal" that is NOT a scandal. It is all in his mind. He's paranoid, and so are his supporters.

States have always done absentee ballots that way. You call or write to get an application in the mail, then you fill out the application and mail it back. Then, your local elections board mails your absentee ballot to you closer to time to vote. You fill it out, get witnesses to sign if you need them (in NC, we need two witnesses, in other states it is different), then you mail it back.

Absentee ballots have always been done by mail. There are cases where you can fill the ballot out at home then return it in person to your local elections board and that is legal too, if you need to do that because absent minded me forgot to mail my aunt's absentee ballot back in time to be counted ON THE DAY OF THE ELECTION one time (she was a stickler about that and I agreed, my bad) and I had to hoof it to our county board of elections office. Most of the time, though, you just mail it in. It is totally legal and has always been.

He is trying to make a big deal about states offering all citizens the chance to vote absentee to avoid spreading Covid-19. He is basically re-branding absentee ballot voting as "mail in voting" and pretending it is illegal. It is NOT illegal. It is no different than what absentee ballot voters do every election year.

It is a manufactured, fabricated, phony "scandal" he is trying to create and his followers are falling for it hook, line, and sinker. What gets me is how many Democrats are falling for it too. He's full of shit. "Mail in voting" is a bullshit phrase made up by Trump. Don't fall for his fucked up brain and what it creates. It'll fuck your mind up too. The man is off his rocker, but crazy like a fox to make it seem like some illegal scheme when it is most definitely NOT illegal. Don't fall for his shit.
