Didn't take long. Would have gone quicker if I had better veins, took them three tries to draw enough for the lab. The nasal swab was fast, but it seems a deviated septum creates a bit of a hurdle.
Anyway, the tech said that if I don't get a phone call in a day or two I'm probably negative.
This happened, by the way, because the pulmonary rehab at the hospital is reopening in a few weeks, and the test is required for participants. I've had nothing but the usual COPD stuff. So I'll be very surprised if it comes back positive.
Fingers crossed, just the same.

(111,245 posts)but what I had, you don't want.
Nobody with COPD needs any kind of respiratory bug and this isn't a nice one, it doesn't like to let go.

(19,193 posts)Not to be negative, but I hope you're as negative as all hell. I have my test tomorrow morning at 10:00. I'm pretty sure I'll be negative as well, but they want me tested for various reasons.

(210 posts)The nurse poked me in the booger nursery. Like, way back in the pre-boogers. Then, she did a strep test where she poked me in the spot most likely to make me gag then swirled it around.
My doc sent me for testing because I've had the sore throat and coughing for the last month, but I added dizziness, fatigue, loss of appetite, and a fever to the mix. I'll know the results on the C19 test in 3-4 days. The strep already came back negative. She's already got me written up for a chest x-ray if the test comes back positive.

(10,167 posts)I can tell you I was terrified to have to go in there. I had a severe head-ache and chills/fever for 3 1/2 days (between 100 and 102), vomiting everything including water, aches and pains. They rushed my test because I'm 71 and have asthma and mild COPD, more trouble with asthma. My test came back negative within 18 hours. My blood work was good so they sent me home with 6 pain pills and a lot of anti-nausea pills. BTW: the brain tickler burns for about 4 to 5 seconds. No biggie.
By Tuesday, yesterday/day 8, I still had a fever and head-ache, the vomiting had stopped, but I really wasn't eating anyway, so I called back. My doc sent me to a "pulmonary hub" set up just for COVID-19, as she did not want me to enter the clinic (I agreed). I told them I had had a normal temp for a couple of hours on Monday, but the fever came back as did the pain. At the hub, my temp was just under 100 and my head was a little better. Under 100 is normal.
An excellent doc there did a thorough interview and history, and a bunch of physical neurological tests. Checked my ears, sinuses, and my previous blood work and I finally got a diagnosis...Tension Migraines!
I never knew I could have these kinds of symptoms with a migraine! I had wound up in an E.R. in San Francisco five years ago with the exact same symptoms and they even thought I had meningitis. This doc thought it was probably my first bought of this type of migraine. Silver lining: I'm not "sick" sick. It sucks this happens, but I'm grateful that's "all" it is. That's my pandemic story so far!
