A series of islands, all already quarantined by default. Not a whole lot of industry, and in December/January all the leisure travel by infected people would have been to China for the holidays and then back, not to Hawai'i.

And not many New Yorkers have homes there, so the plague exodus didn't affect them as much.

Remember, the fairly simple models are going to be wrong because they assume random chance encounters among the entire population. It spreads by networks (rather like language change, as the Milroys showed in the '70s in Britain).

We used to use California as the great example.

Eight dead. None in our Province. Two cases near us. Both recovered. Mostly all native residents. First case was a Tico back from Italy back in February.

Rules for 65 or older or health conditions to allow them to work from home. Also can use vacation days they have or will earn in the future.

Everyone has two days a week they can not drive. Sat and Sundays can only leave home to go to grocery store or hospital.

Originally could only drive from 5:30 am to 5 pm. Then 5:30 to 7pm. Lately it changed to 5:30 to 10pm.

Stores and banks open. No masks. Limited entry. Six feet apart Handwashing and stepping in sanitizer.

NO (stupid) PROTESTERS!!!

We feel guilty having such a great quarantine!!!

Looks good.. I'm surprised at the "No masks" for stores and banks, though. We have a strict Mask policy.. Sign on the side of buses.. "No Mask No Ride" On the entrance to Take Out restaurants.. No Mask No Service.

I haven't heard of much grumbling, either.

We've had no deaths on Kauai.. and hope it stays like that.

There's too many epidemiologists saying it WILL happen, with certainty.

The only bright side is that it might be a slow-roll that doesn't overburden the hospitals. There's not much of a positive spin on this nightmare otherwise.

Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if more Americans took it seriously, but we're talking about a bunch of people who voted for Trump in 2016.

There is a right wing theme that hospitals are getting extra $ to call deaths due to COVID.
This despite there being no such government money authorized and that insurance companies are never going to overpay based on cause of death.
So, these cultists believe the death rate is greatly exaggerated to make their knit of the morons look bad.
Anything to avoid admitting they got suckered!

And the Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) guidelines that DO in fact set reimbursements rates based on, among other things, the principle, and secondary diagnosis.

https://www.cms.gov/Medicare/Medicare-Fee-for-Service-Payment/ProspMedicareFeeSvcPmtGen

https://www.cms.gov/Medicare/Medicare-Fee-for-Service-Payment/AcuteInpatientPPS

The CARE Act provides a 20% add on payment for Covid patients.

I do not believe that ANY hospital is using this to commit fraud, but the fact is that there is increased payment, due to the increase precautions and care used for those patients.

They'd make even more money by just ignoring the recommendations on deferring such procedures.
So, it would be easier & more profitable to do the procedures than to perpetrate a fraud.

I am one of the employees that is being furloughed because of the lack of elective surgery and routine care.
I just wanted to point out that although the RW memes were technically true, no hospital would commit fraud, just for the extra payment.
But there is higher reimbursement for Covid diagnosis vs other diagnosis.

Sorry to hear your situation.
As I meant to say, I agree that the hospitals are extraordinarily unlikely to commit fraud. Especially given that they would get in a lot less trouble by simply taking their chances on performing deferrable procedures. And more money.

Be careful taking them off. Also be careful with your mask. Leave it on your face until you get home. Do not touch it or pull it down while you are out. Leave it in place until you can get home safely and wash your hands to remove it then wash again after you do.

No new cases since 3 weeks ago.

Last person to be in hospital with COVID-19 recovered and left hospital yesterday, after 4 weeks of treatment.

Borders still closed, other states report new cases, all less than 10.

We have it under control.

We don't have Republicans here in Australia. Might those 2 facts be linked?

A lot of businesses are clamoring to be allowed to open up. Restaurants and other eateries are limited to 10 inside, 10 outside.
Middle of cold season here, who wants to be outside though?

Most venues aren't opening, not viable to open up for 10 people when the venue can cater for hundreds. Lights on, 30 staff, 10 customers? Kitchen operational?
Does not compute!
