I was going to point out that the christian religion is at its core a death-cult featuring a human sacrifice as its origin story and promising an end time slaughter of everyone.

That who these good-bothering Trump-praising preachers worship....

I guess they figured God would protect them. Well I don't worry about them as much as the other people who they come in contact with. Prayer isn't going to save they butts from poor decision making.

rural south Bible belt where we live closed down physical group services altogether. Congregants also tend to average older, and those who imagine that any but a small portion of over-65s are out spiting Democrats on bar stools or that their families aren't worried that they could lose them are deluding themselves. In our part of FL over-65s largely disappeared from restaurants at least a couple weeks before the first communities issued stay-at-home orders. Self-directed.

But the kind of very conservative, insular congregations we're thinking of, that are mostly putting their faith in god's will and/or letting their minister direct them, are continuing long patterns of faith-based behavior. Plus, virtually all grew up in the age of antibiotics and modern medicine; their insular group wisdom doesn't include experience of epidemic disease, and their local radio station's been telling them it's all overblown.

Also, though, for these people church is their family, their home, their community; the lives of multiple generations of families revolve around their churches. No only are family there each week for the main service, many of their extended family and friends may have attended various church-centered activities during the week and run into each other everywhere else too. There just isn't that division most have, and god's taken care of them so far.
