...Romney's missteps getting scary

Watch: Romney's missteps getting scary

ANN McFEATTERS
Scripps Howard News Service

The prospect of Mitt Romney as president is becoming a scary prospect as he works to convince us he'd be a disaster. The question is why?

Having had one of the worst GOP conventions ever, Romney still careens from one misstep to another.

Eager to be commander in chief, he declined in his acceptance speech to mention the war in Afghanistan or pay homage to our troops, the first time a GOP presidential nominee has failed to salute the military in half a century.

As this egregious error forced conservatives and liberals to criticize Romney, he petulantly complained about being picked on for his choice of words. Actually, he forgot about Afghanistan and the military. (Perhaps because neither he nor his five healthy sons served?)

The Republicans picked the worst candidate ever, and if that's the best they can do, then they need to disband.

2. I'd think that Mitt, The CEO of Bain Capital, had people kowtowing to his every whim & whimper

I see how he behaves on the campaign trail, the same way, even his Annie and her "you people" reference. The story about one of his sons complaining that a hospice would devalue his precious castle's worth. Really nice people

I can only imagine how Mitt, The Conqueror would expect heads of foreign countries to just roll over and do as He commands - just because he says so.

I can also imagine him doing something really stupid and disastrous if any country tells him to kick rocks.

It's the stuff of nightmares. About as scary has having a stupid twit like Sarah Palin a heartbeat away from the Presidency.

Think about the Presidential campaign thus far. Mitt Romney, aided by the media, staked out an advantage on the issue of the economy based solely on his business background. Nothing else. Being CEO of Bain was the experience that allegedly qualified him to be President.

That fascade is being torn down, and he no longer has the advantage.

Still, look at where this country is relative to world affairs.

The country is still involved in a war in Afghanistan, and somehow a person with limited foreign policy experience, and seemingly no real interest in it outside starting another war, was sold to the American people as a viable candidate to lead this nation.

Does Mitt realize that the economy is more than tax cuts for the rich and rhetoric about job creators? He's a foreign policy dunce and is clueless about the actual economy. Reminds me of this from Krugman:

Poles Apart

So on the third leg of his foreign tour, (Mr. Bean) Mitt Romney lavished praise on the Polish economy. It wasn’t quite as big a blooper as his praise for Israel’s single-payer-plus-price controls health care system, but it wasn’t good.

For one thing, Poland has substantially bigger government than the US; in 2007, that is, pre-crisis, the Polish government spent 42 percent of GDP, compared with 37 in the United States. And despite what Romney claimed, there was no obvious trend toward smaller government; Polish spending as a share of GDP was about the same in 2007 as it had been in 2000...and universal health care too.

<...>

So actually Poland’s success suggests that (a) big government isn’t so bad (b) sometimes its good to debase your currency.

Doesn’t anyone tell Romney to do his homework?

Nope. He was a con man, as in "confidence man" in every sense of the word.

He would suck up to rich people telling them that he would make them richer.

In the business world he was a slimy used car salesman with a lot full of clunkers and anything he couldn't sell he would strip for parts.

He would go into each place along the way and tell the assembled people whatever he felt they wanted to hear, be it a local bank loaning the business money to keep their town alive or the brokers to bid up the stock before the sell off.

He has left a trail of victims in his wake but doesn't CARE because his rich clients got richer and he got the crumbs.

Problem One: Romney is unable to admit he made a mistake.

Problem Two. Romney reacts without knowing all the facts.

Problem Three. Instead of presenting a coherent, detailed economic plan to woo voters desperate for jobs, Romney's whole strategy is to attack Obama although the stock market just reached a five-year high.

Problem Four. Romney is stoking the perception he will do or say anything to get elected.

PROBLEM FIVE. Romeny is a sociopathic, pathological LIAR who needs to show his TAX RETURNS Before he gets "Security Clearance".

beating drums for the bombing of Iran, and going into the Middle East where the riots are and just kill for the sake of honor of the American values. They killed 4 Americans and we must kill 400 and who cares if they were involved. Mittens and his GOP base have gone loony tunes.

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph - his advisors are all PNAC'ers or former bush/cheney-ites, and look how well THAT one worked out.

The guy's already talking about how terrible it is that we seem to be confining our overseas military adventurism to only one war theater. The PNAC'ers have always talked longingly about being able "to fight and decisively win multiple wars on multiple fronts."

Dear God Almighty! With WHAT money, wrongney? And you're the one who says he'll balance the budget by the end of his first term?

Is there a reason the Republican establishment is OK with Romney and his gaffes. Is it that they figure they can scam a win for their side no matter how many constituencies they alienate. Are they counting on mass disenfranchisement coupled with massively financed disinformation campaigns to give them the victory their ideas cannot. Karl Rove, the Kochs and their ilk are not spending big money for no reason. I hope the people can see through the storm of BS that is on the horizon.

If Romney is president, it would only be a matter of time before we would be faced with the possibility of WW III. Not hundreds of thousands, but millions of innocent American lives would be at risk. No matter how good technology is and how great our military is, it won't be possible to stop every missile that hits our country. Entire US cities could face a nuclear attack. I know of no one who doesn't have family or friends on the east or west coast that could be the likely areas attacked....and killed. Sobering thought....
