An unfolding tragedy: Mother admitted playing a role in the death of her autistic son.

So sad to see this. Close to where i live.

The mother of Alejandro Ripley is the primary focus of the investigation into his death and admitted playing a role in his death, a senior law enforcement source told CBS 4 News.

The source also said that the mother admitted making up the story about two black men abducting her child.

The law enforcement source said the mother broke down after police found witnesses who claim to have seen the mother with the child near the lake where the childís body was eventually found.

An Amber Alert for 9-year-old Alejandro, who was allegedly abducted from his motherís car Thursday night, was canceled on Friday morning.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement confirmed Alejandro was found dead....

8. Alejandro Ripley's mother was charged with second-degree murder this morning.

Patricia Ripley, Miami mother of autistic boy found dead in pond, charged with murder

Patricia Ripley, the West Kendall mother who claimed her severely autistic 9-year-old son had been kidnapped by strange men on a public road, has been arrested on accusations that she murdered the child.

After hours of questioning by police, the 47-year-old Ripley was booked into a Miami-Dade jail just before 3 a.m. Saturday on a charge of second-degree murder.

Law-enforcement sources have told the Miami Herald that Ripley eventually admitted she was behind the death of Alejandro Ripley, whose disappearance sparked a frantic statewide manhunt early Friday that ended when his body was found in a pond at the Miccosukee Golf & Country Club....

Miami-Dade homicide detectives spent hours questioning the mother Friday night before she was finally booked. Details of the evidence against her were not immediately available early Saturday.
