Mitch McConnell slammed by NYT for fleeing DC for vacation while millions are out of work

Published 4 hours ago on May 23, 2020
By Bob Brigham

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and his Republican caucus were the focus of a highly-critical New York Times editorial.

“After three weeks in session, the United States Senate emptied out again on Friday, as lawmakers fled Washington for the Memorial Day recess. They left without even pretending to tackle the next round of coronavirus relief,” the newspaper noted. “This is how the Senate Republican leader, Mitch McConnell, wants it.”

“The Democratic-led House passed a $3 trillion relief package on May 15. That bill was imperfect but it was something. Mr. McConnell, on the other hand, has repeatedly said he’s in no hurry for the Senate to offer its own proposal. He has put talks on an indefinite pause, saying he wants to see how the economy responds to previous relief measures,” the paper reported. “The Senate may get around to putting together a plan when it reconvenes next month. Or perhaps it will in July.”

“This course of inaction is unsustainable,” The Times warned, noting that new jobless claims of almost 39 million Americans with unemployment approaching 20 percent.

Since the New York Times published the names of the dead from this pandemic ...............I just gotta ask, if the Kentucky Newspapers will publish the dead Kentuckians from this pandemic and how many Kentuckians are going hungry , can't pay rent or there mortgage, and the state and local police officers and firefighters are going to lose there jobs, because this asshole thinks it just fine and dandy for states to go bankrupt and put his Ayn Rand Libertarian BS to work while he lives off the taxpayers ticket going on vacation.........................while this asshole is on another "vacation" making $225,000.00 a year and making $18,725.00 a month doing fucking nothing.............

Republicans' deliberate and determined inaction, not just Trump's. At very least another 100K are expected to die -- because congressional Republicans refused and blocked action to contain SARS-CoV-2 and limit the deaths that would result.

The president is the big administrator, but when he refused that didn't mean congress had no responsibility or options. They have enormous power but senate Republicans refused from the beginning to take any of the actions they could have. That's proven beyond doubt. Why is not.

The NYT is still committed to keeping Republicans in power. I'd be fine if the entire NYT editorial board died on respirators. Contemptible hypocrites. Tomorrow's paper lists all those who've died so far, whose blood is on their hands as well.

Yes, it is IQ45 that is out there tramping all over human rights and regulations that would protect the health and welfare of Americans, but it is the REPUBLICONS (yes, the CONvicts!) led by Moscow Mitch McTurtle, that are ALLOWING that to happen - because THAT IS WHAT THEY WANT!!!!

It is not enough to get rid of IQ45, worthy a goal as that may be - we must regain control of the US Senate AND keep control of the House of Representatives, providing JOE with the means to get this country back on track - far, far away from the greedy hands of Moscow Mitch and his 1% !!!!!!!!

I once heard Brian Williams state very briefly that their failures to act were established beyond any doubt and that investigation would be required, but that we were in crisis and that would come later.

Moscow Mitch would fit better in a pre-Civil War senate.
