If we should finally get all 3 branches of government, we really need to address the power of the Presidency. Enough is fucking enough.

(13,569 posts)We add more supreme court justices, we make statehood for DC and PR happen, we obliterate that damned DoJ memo on the charging of a sitting president.
And NO MERCY for the traitors. They must be ripped open in public view to show all the corruption, all the theft, all the treason.
NO MERCY.
We should have stomped out this faux conservatism decades ago.
Oh. And the Fairness Doctrine comes back. A measure of some kind to require truthful reporting on the airwaves that belong to the people.

Count the scandals since 1970. Other than the Lewinsky thing, scandals of which dems were accused were ginned up, with no merit. And even that one was a fishing expedition found while looking for something actually illegal. They found nothing so they did this.
Nothing under Carter. One made up scandal under Clinton. Nothing under Obama.
Nixon: Watergate & I've lost count of the others
Reagan: October Surprise, Iran Contra, drug deals to fund that one, ...
43: I've lost count, and that doesn't include going to war with the wrong freaking country!
You want accountability?
Elect democrats.

Add, two teaspoons of racism, 1 teaspoon of xenophobia, and 1 cup of jealousy and you have your answer.
Much of it is rooted in those "against their own interest" things they voted for.
The american dream of a house, decent car, happy nuclear family, and a retirement without fear is out of reach now.
The issues on which they voted caused this.
Add in my recipe, and they've become a "victim cult". They don't have to admit they got suckered if they can find others to blame.

(13,583 posts)even a working class republican thinks doing that would give democrats a huge advantage. The don't realize it, but really draining the swamp would also get them better candidates.

(13,583 posts)have it backwards. People that would really be good in high office, can almost always make a lot more money doing something else. We end up with the B squad looking to get rich anyway they can once they get in there. Prohibit them from owning stock too. It's the long way around, but we need to get good people in there to actually work for us.

(24,468 posts)They were subverting the will of the people who elected these Presidents and would not bring bills to get the the people's business done. The EO's were only an abuse if you don't consider in context. The real EO abuse has been by Republican Presidents, IMHO.

(2,022 posts)My point is just that attempts to prevent abuse of power is going to require changes that no president (of either party) will accept. They always believe that *they* are not the problem.

(90,336 posts)... so executive can't just wait out suppeanas, court substantiated impeachments so that process is less political and more legal and ability for congress to jail people who work against will of congress no matter who but legally and court substantiated.
easy peasy
