Coronavirus - Old Man Falls in Street

My husband is 71 with Parkinson's. We couldn't find anyone to cut our grass. He decided to cut it himself and borrowed neighbor's law mower. I told him not to do it himself but he is stubborn.

He fell down and landed in the road. Later said that cars were driving around him. He was not wearing a mask. Finally, two workmen, also not wearing masks, stopped their truck and picked him up. Social distancing? They helped him back into our driveway.

Neighbor saw this and came running over. He was also not wearing a mask. Got a chair out of our garage, and rang our doorbell to get me. I was inside the house cooking and didn't see or hear anything. There were 5 of us not wearing masks standing around him. Neighbor and a workman held him under his arms, and walked him up two flights of stairs into our house.

Do you agree with what these people did in light of virus? No Masks. Social Distancing? Just call the Police from their cars? How long would that take? Just leave the man in the road until they came?

Sorry, but you cannot prepare for all situations with masks and social distancing. Thankfully, there are still Good Samaritans around; coronavirus or not.

1. Yes I do agree.

If one is a good person, their natural instinct would be to help with little regard for their own immediate risk. At least I’d like to keep thinking that.

2. Sometimes there is no good answer.

You see an elderly man laying in the street through your window, what do you do? Obviously these people put helping him first. In bad situations, people just react and I bet that's what happened here. It would have been great if someone put on a mask before helping, but didn't. Better in this case to help him than leave him in street for who knows how long until the police get there. If you knew he was ok, that would be one thing, but that wasn't what happened here.

5. I have masks and gloves in my car.

I'd have stopped, put on a mask and gloves, and helped him get up and back to safety. I don't wear a mask and gloves while driving, but I have them available always. We all should, I believe.

In fact, after I wash my masks, I just put them in my van. That way I can make sure that I don't forget them. I put them in baggies to make sure they stay pristine before I use them.

People driving around a person lying out in the road and not stopping to help? Holy Gawd, that's just awful.

I hope you can find someone to keep the grass cut. The issue with yard work is why we ended up giving up our house - after some hard conversations and moments such as yours.

My heart goes out to you, for more than one reason.

husband happened fairly quickly reducing possible exposure.

Can you afford a regular lawn care service? Tons of those out there. Or check out community bulletin boards. Our local grocery store has one at the entry that always has a ton of people looking for that kind of work.

11. I stepped off a sidewalk wrong a couple weeks ago and rolled ankle, went down and cut up

other knee. My dog started freaking out. I am bleeding and in pain, got my palm too. I am all ouch ouch ouch and a 80 something yr old couple out for their walk came over. We are all trying to distance, they are wanting to help and it was so hard. Later in the week I saw them walk by and yelled out thanks for caring and being with me until I could get up and hobble home. The woman said she felt so bad. Wanted to pick me up and hug but....

So ya. Stuff happens. I really believe with three old people isolating, outside for our walks, we would have been ok, but that was in the mind for sure.
