CNN is stirring up the crazies

CNN's reporters are getting jeered at for wearing masks in the Myrtle Beach area.

This is not a good trend and appears to be more prevalent in the red states (surprise surprise).

Trump can't take all the blame for this. The MSM is making a thing out of Trump's lack of wearing a mask and there may be some partisan/anti-MSM blowback going on.

I live in this red state and don't need this action. Please stop it CNN.

9. They can report on the CDC mask recommendations

That's fine. That is newsworthy and an appropriate PSA.

However they are embarrassing Trump over his lack of mask wearing hour after hour after hour. They came up with one grainy photo of Trump with a mask and it went straight to the front page. After a certain point you cross the line between raising valid criticisms and tabloid journalism. In my opinion they crossed it.

You can make a parallel between this and Reagan's AIDS debacle I suppose, but it is a bit of a stretch and I'm not really buying into it.

They've been misbehaving long, and I mean long, before CNN started poo pooing Donald and his lack of consideration toward other people.

25. No CNN isn't the problem creator

They're just the problem exacerbator, needlessly raising tensions. I've literally learned nothing from their mask reporting today that I didn't already know yesterday and the day before.

The Biden Army really shouldn't be circling the wagons around crappy news that happens to align with our objectives. That's what the right does. We shouldn't do that because we don't need to do that. It only serves to weaken our platform.

4. Oh god. Myrtle Beach.

We went for free for about 10 years courtesy of my brother in law. We’d been pretty much locked in with a baby when that started.

Myrtle Beach - NORTH Myrtle no less - was an eye opener. I thought there seemed to be a lot of people from Holister wherever that is. Tattoos don’t age well. Wall to wall pop ups. They outlawed those a few years ago.

I miss the beach but not Myrtle Beach.

66. I went there around 14 years ago on vacation with two of my brothers.

I found the area to be decent, though a little behind the times, the good eating places closed on Sundays. People that we dealt with were pleasant enough. Seafood dishes were pretty good, if one ignored stuff that they should never have tried to do, like New England clam chowder (you only get that done right when visiting New England itself).

Most of it was bland chains. We did the Calabash thing which I hated. I have to say I was shocked at the lack of Starbucks or even coffee places.

73. Yes. Good eating places were rare. Like you said, the chains like KFC seemed to be everywhere.

I found a good grill place on the main highway through there at the time. It did really good grilled chicken and seafood, but closed on Sunday. I found a small place near the marshland, looked like the woman that owned it had just started up, there was a couple beside me for dinner on a Sunday, that place was good, but slow.

Anyone who go there and want good dining really need to do their homework up front before leaving home. Fine dining was weak when I was there and looked that way when you visited four years later. Maybe in the last 10 years it has gotten more available.

Trump pays no attention. The Democrats already think Trump is a fool and pay no attention either. The story is actually quite boring. The Republicans pay little attention, just enough to get annoyed and jeer at mask-wearing neighbors like me. So that's the only effect gained from this.

24. The reporter is "catching the brunt" because Trump has continually vilified the press

and called the media terrible, nasty people who lie, fake their stories, are the enemy of the people, etc.etc. since well before he was eleacted. He has whipped his cult into a frenzy, and will keep it up at least until a journalist is seriously injured or killed by one of his lunatic followers. You are blaming the victim and not the perpetrator. This is a volatile situation, but it was not caused by accurate reporting of Trump's unwillingness to comply with some of the most basic guidelines promulgated by his administration's own health experts and which are necessary to even partially mitigate the effects of the pandemic.

12. I just warned my family that we may be

Ridiculed, threatened, etc. because we intend to wear masks and fill CDC guidelines on our vacation. I see it already on the comments on the OBX, Camp Hatteras, and Ocracoke FB pages.

So far, we plan on keeping our camping reservations at Hatteras, but things can change in 3 wks or so. We camp in our fully equipped RV so there is no reason to use the bathhouse, and we intend on just using the beach at our campground (a2min walk over the dune from our camper) or the one at the lighthouse where they have really nice new bathrooms, so no portapotties. We also pack a portable shower and biodegradable soap with us to wash the sand off with before heading back to camp. So far John Hopkins data is not showing any infections on the barrier islands. Our aim is to keep it that way, but still enjoy the beach and support the local economy.

Truthfully, no matter how busy Hatteras is, it’s nothing like Rehoboth, DE. Wouldn’t head there if you paid me a million dollars.

SC is a red state to begin with. I'm pretty sure the demographic that would flock to the beach at this very moment is skewed to the right even more.

So if you are heading there, it's probably best to leave the mask and Biden cap at home.

I'm the messenger here, not the bad guy.

He's the root cause of most of what is going on.

At the end of the day though, what matters most is the overall virus R-naught value. The more masks that are worn, the more it goes down.

Every time CNN takes a cheap shot at Trump's unmasked face, somewhere a conservative takes their mask off in protest.

We have to find a way to coexist with these people.

Did you read the OP? Blaming strictly one side or the other is a false dichotomy.

So what's the point of mask-shaming if it has a paradoxical effect and results in fewer masks being worn? Isn't that self-defeating? Do we get to claim a moral victory with our last breaths before being hooked to ventilators? I'll pass.

Again, we need to find a way to coexist with these people. I don't know that singling out individuals (including presidents) for mask-shaming is the way forward.

69. You slipped a weasel word in there

I don't attack CNN and FXN "equally". I've been hitting FXN much harder. Much much harder. I would say that I attack FXN proportionally to their shoddy coverage. It's balanced that way, but certainly not "equal".

I just don't see my occasional criticism of CNN as being "trolling" (despite it being panned).

Win some lose some I guess.

71. Criticize CNN all you want this is all a game you are playing

Your argument that CNN is somehow even remotely to blame for ignorant people reacting stupidly to people wearing masks is what is disingenuous trolling here.

51. WTF are you talking about?

Blame the media for Trump turning a public health issue into a political one? Yeah that makes perfect sense.

54. Strange. You don't seem to like CNN much

Here you accuse CNN of being passive aggressive towards OAN...

57. They are the best house in a sketchy town

I'm a critic at heart but fair I think. Did you research my posts on Fox News? I'm even more critical of them.

The OANN thread was more of an amusing observation than anything.

I have been very critical of Jim Acosta of late and stand by my previous statements.

Thanks for reading my threads at least.

59. What a manipulative post.

I'm glad to see DU chewing it up and spitting it out.

61. There are some fair rebukes here

...but many strawman arguments too.

Trump has a plausible excuse. The CDC only advises masks when social distancing can't be observed. He's pushing it but can make this claim. Also he gets tested frequently. Lets not forget that Fauci used this same justification when challenged in the same way. Now Fauci has moved on to wearing a mask more frequently while Trump hasn't. Personally I don't like Trump's messaging here but feel the media should move on to more pressing matters.

So everybody approves of CNN's presidential mask coverage then? It's all good?
