Memorial Day Weekend sees rise in Florida's COVID-19 cases

State health officials Sunday reported 740 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of cases in Florida to 50,867, including 49,547 Florida residents.

On Sunday, the Department of Health (DOH) also reported a rise in hospitalizations. Sunday’s report announced an additional 71 hospitalizations, raising the total amount to 9,381 in the state.

Moreover, 4 fatalities were confirmed Sunday totaling 80 non-residents. Since the pandemic’s onset, 2,316 people have died as a result of the novel coronavirus in Florida including 2,236 Florida residents.

In the last 24 hours, 151 people have tested positive in Miami-Dade County, bumping the amount of total cases to 16,845. The county’s death toll increased by 2 to 641.

The total of positive tests in Broward County increased by 48 to 6,697. The death toll, however, remained at 314.

...shows up. What these new reports show is that there was already an uptick even before things got as insane as they are this weekend.

It'll get worse, much worse, especially once we see the real numbers and not the rigged numbers.

over the past decade between "the birth certificate scandal," voting for, and supporting Trump, and now Covid19.

One was my best friend of 35 years.

Yes, I cried-- but, I don't want those people in my life. I am a 7th generation Southerner, so I guess losing people over a societal problem is in my blood.

I think this bad weather is really going to keep the folks inside, especially the magats who don't want to wear masks and party at the drop of a hat....

and this time of year there is a lot of al fresco dining (especially in Ft Lauderdale) so the rain will put a damper on that. Maybe they will eat inside - our county prohibits more than 50% capacity and the tables have to be at least six feet apart. But then again, even though this is a blue county and you see a lot of masks and social distancing, there are also magats down here that refuse to follow any rules, rain or shine.
