Trump Economic Adviser: 'Our Human Capital Stock Is Ready To Get Back To Work'

White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett on Sunday said that workers -- who he referred to as "human capital stock" -- are "ready to get back to work" during the coronavirus pandemic.

In an interview on CNN, host Dana Bash asked Hassett if unemployment could be in double digits when President Donald Trump faces re-election in November.

"Yes, I do," Hassett replied. "But I think all the signs of economic recovery are going to be raging everywhere and the only thing we're going to be really debating as economists is are we going to get back to where we were or is it going to be kind of a long haul to get there?"

The economic adviser added: "Our human capital stock is ready to get back to work and so there are lots of reasons to believe we can get going way faster than we have in previous crises."

what I was expecting by now and a true reluctance on the part of the working people to jump right in the band wagon.

People have had time to think about stuff and it matters. I think that just blasting out that everyone should go back to work without a plan or assurance of safety on the job... don't think people are going to do that.

in regard to U.S. troops in Iraq.

https://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/fl-xpm-2004-04-16-0404151252-story,amp.html

..."Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, the likely Democratic presidential candidate, who criticized the administration for a lack of planning and the impact of altered plans on troops, seized on Rumsfeld's comment that troops could be moved around in Iraq because "people are fungible."

"Secretary Rumsfeld's comment that 'people are fungible' is further indication of this administration's continuing disregard for the men and women who put their lives on the line every day in Iraq," Kerry said. "Secretary Rumsfeld has it wrong. Troops are not chess pieces to be moved on a board. They are real people with families and loved ones who depend on them."

Kerry charged the administration had failed to equip troops with adequate body and vehicle armor and criticized the decision to extend combat service beyond the one-year limit troops had been promised.

"Our troops are asked to serve in an action where the administration can't even tell them what the plan is to move forward," Kerry said."

many months. If were lucky, things will be close to a new normal by this time next year. I know your boss wants things normal by November so he can brag on HIS ECONOMY, but it's not happenin'. Too bad that's the only thing he has on his "accomplishments" list.

I'm sure he thinks all us cattle are enjoying our time off cooped up and watching savings (if any) drain. I have a feeling his idea of an incentive is making sure slackers are terminated with extreme prejudice if they don't return to work immediately.

Even the ridiculous fluoridated water conspiracy, espoused by General Ripper, seems almost tame compared to other conspiracies being promoted now.

There we have it, fellow stock.

How much more do we need to hear from the guards of capitalism in its decline? At least they are now telling us how they really perceive the rest of us and giving us a heads up on where they are going.

The thing is, that's a rather dire situation. We are going to have to take this seriously and contemplate our fate in that case. Are we really ready to just take it if it means what is being implied?

I am just suggesting that taking the signs lightly is not a very good idea at this juncture. It is time to consider the implications of what we face and get into a more proactive mood about our circumstances here. We are not too far from being cattle and that's not being partisan, hyperbolic or sensational.

When push comes to shove, we may want to have some personal and collective response in gear.
