At various times over the past three and a half years, many of us have asked what would happen if President Trump truly went over the edge or if his behavior became so frightening that his unfitness for the most powerful position on Earth could no longer be denied.
snip
The truth is that Trump is not much more despicable of a human being than he has always been; its just that standard Trumpian behavior becomes more horrifying when it occurs during an ongoing national crisis. It is reality that changed around him, and he was incapable of responding to it.
snip
If you gave many Republicans in Washington truth serum, theyd say, Of course hes unfit to be president. Of course hes corrupt, of course hes incompetent, of course hes the most dishonest person ever to step into the Oval Office. But I can live with that, because him being reelected means Republicans keep power, we get more conservative judges and we get all the policies we favor.
snip
In the future, when we look back on this dark period, we should resist the temptation to focus solely on Trump himself. To do so would be to excuse those who know exactly what he is but pretend they can work to keep him in office and remain unsullied. They cannot, and their moral culpability becomes clearer every day.

It was followed by "why are all the crazy guys with the guns on his side?"
Followed by "This is a young country. Most countries have already been headed by madmen and have survived them. Maybe we will get through this. We will be different, though. We will need to be."

(1,753 posts)know Trump is unfit to be president.
Its the blind partisan right, the 11th Commandment, and the belief by Republicans that controlling the WH is their birthright.

(13,102 posts)They didn't.
They normalized the orange, anus mouth, buffoon.
They continued to do so during his impeachment.
They have pretended he was normal, until it was too late to stop him.

(6,526 posts)in the first days that they talked a lot about him shaping up and becoming Presidential. But, after he discovered how powerful he became with this position, he flipped out. There was no chance after that.

(694 posts)He will win, steal, delay, or negate the election. This is a guerrilla political war and conventional thinking will result in the unthinkable, a second term. Of course everyone should vote, contribute, etc. But if you think this group of deplorable's is going to let the DOJ fall into democratic, enemy hands, forget it. That would result in his criminal exposure. Republican's are in on this. In a normal political environment republicans would be sprinting away from this failure of a president. Hasn't happened.
So, you better be ready to grab your mask and head out to protest come November. Signing an online petition or composing an enraged tweet won't do it. I hope I'm wrong and will laugh at my paranoia in November, but things have grown increasingly bizarre and I don't see it ending.

(69 posts)Trump and many other politicians are bought and paid for by special interests. At this point, the average person has little influence on the policies being made that affect them. This is because of all the big money being poured into politics. This goes for Democrats as well as Republicans.

(10,828 posts)Those enablers include most Republicans who have supported, turned a blind eye or rallied around the ignoramus. No excuses. The Republicans are no longer the 'loyal' opposition. They are willing to defend and support a criminal while throwing away our Democratic Republic for money and power. They support a cult. They are the enemy inside the tent.
Democratic voters know this. Some Republican voters know this. Never-Trumpers have not suddenly turned into nice little Democrats. No, they simply recognize the threat that Trump and the GOP have become to the very fabric of the country. Suburban women see this. Seniors are awakening to the fact and the AA community and other POC see Donald Trump for what he's always been: a fat, over-indulged bigot. Ask the immigrant community. I'm sure we'd all get an earful.
Donald Trump represents the worst instincts running through our multicultural, racial, religious, ethnic society: Whinerism, Victimology and Flat-Out Prejudice. Roll that up with a lust for power and money and a talent for propaganda and anything is possible. Human history is rich in the crimes of authoritarian piglets.
Donald Trump is the living embodiment of America's underbelly. It's not new but the Cult is in power at the moment.
Which is why said Cult must be crushed along with its twisted members.
Never forget, never forgive.
