Businesses that require masks should have the right to refuse service to anyone who refuses to wear one. It's a respect thing and even cloth will stop large droplets, they just won't stop exhaled (or inhaled) viruses.

I have surgical masks, myself, a little heftier than paper ones but not impervious to viruses. It will slow things down but probably not stop them. Most people on my trip to a grocery last week were wearing them, the only ones who weren't were males with unkempt facial hair who all looked like they were stamped out by a mold at Freedumb Central Casting. I had extras with me but after the second snarl, I stopped offering. Those hosers are on their own and I hope they manage to wise up before the virus kills them.

Actually, Dr. Fauci said as late as early April that all most masks would do is make your face sweaty.

The masks won't do any harm. Cloth masks, especially, won't do a whole lot of good. However, they will keep fingers off the face and might stop some of the larger droplets.

People masked during the 1918 flu. It still spread.

An N-95 mask, properly fitted and properly worn and combined with meticulous hygiene will stop this thing. However, with health care workers unable to source enough of them, it's nuts to require them of the general population.

Until they are freely available to everybody, use what ya got. There is a slim chance it will slow this down.

South Korea CDC. Hong Kong citizens did not wear N95, just regular surgical masks, only 4 deaths. Vast majority of transmissions are through droplets. Surgical masks stop droplets. Especially when talking. Taiwan gov’t has been giving masks to all citizens early on - the results are incredible.

46. I was kind of surprised by this, because Staten Island is generally known as the "Red"

borough of NYC. They almost always go republican and have even considered seceeding from the rest of NYC due to their political differences with the rest of the boroughs, which are all strongly blue.

However, I guess maybe because the city was so hard hit, they may be taking this more seriously than other parts of the country.
