Alabamans defend hitting the beach despite COVID-19: ‘I don’t want to die, but if that’s what God has in store then that’s okay’

May 26, 2020

By Tom Boggioni

Reporting on the decision by officials in the state of Alabama to move toward fully re-open despite the rising tide of COVID-19 infections, CNN sent cameras down to a beach in the state where crowds packed the sand over the Memorial Day weekend and many beachgoers they interviewed were dismissive of the possibility they could become infected by the deadly virus.

Reporting from the state, CNN’s Gary Tuchman noted, “Social distancing is the state’s rule, but that effort has often been an exercise in futility at the beaches and bars on Memorial day week as people come back to party. At this restaurant in Gulf Shores, Alabama, many wonder why it took this long to open.”

(And my favorite part)

Yet another beachgoer defended not wearing a mask because Donald Trump doesn’t wear one in public.

“I mean, if he’s not wearing a mask, I’m not wearing a mask. If he’s not worried, I’m not worried,” he told Tuchman.

Has certainly fueled so much of the anti mask crowd. Imagine if he had been religiously wearing a mask...the absolute wanton ignorance in this administration is breathtaking.

Real men wear masks so as not to spread this virus to the vulnerable or anyone for that matter. You Hume, are an idiot, and hope you get it from your careless actions.

4. Because the president is an idiot, not wearing a mask. It's ok to be a idiot and follow the idiot?

And there we have it, folks like my grandmother used to say the blind leading the blind.

Idiot following the Idiot in Chief (I.I.C). Right down a rabbit hole if they are lucky.

Or an extended stay in an ICU hook to a ventilator with no guarantee of walking away if you are not smart enough to avoid the I.I.C.

It's a laissez-faire dog-eat-dog world they want for us but demand socialized protections for corporations.

I submit their dogma of individualism and libertarianism is a ruse that's there entirely to maximize company profits by minimizing government control and regulations.

That's why red states push for rapid reopening with no protective laws on the books relating to coronavirus. They only offer an abundance of vague suggestions.

because it's all about them, there will be less competition, and maybe more resources for them. And 'eh, that's life' to them.

swaths of people are thinking, "I'll get the house and their banking account!"

Don't underestimate the venality of these people.

8. and will they defend going to the beach when they or their loved ones die?

probably not.

the typical right wing mantra, "something is not a problem until it happens to me".

then they will whine, cry and stamp their feet over why they weren't told what to do.

The problem is al the good, innocents they take with them as they wither and die.

If it wasn't for that I be perfectly OK with letting them take themselves out en masse.
