I can scale back my business and run it without my 7 employees as I have been doing. I am extremely busy and need help, but I want to do all I can to keep from getting sick. I can't hire anyone back unless I can test them two or three times a week. I don't care who tells me I need to "open up". I am very lucky to be able to be able to choose maximum safety when so many others (workers) have little control over their environment.
Sorry Trump. I ain't opening up until I can get affordable test kits, theraputics, or a vaccine. I didn't work my whole life to get sick and die because you laid off the Pandemic Response Team, and did nothing while the virus spread here for months. I mean nothing besides calling the virus a hoax and banning a few Chinese Nationals.
No test kits, no employees Trump.
I truly believe Trump is so stupid he doesn't understand this. I guess he figures most of America is as stupid has he is. Not here in Seattle.

(26,721 posts)I can think of seven people you might want to apologize to first. They might have a different concept of what price is "affordable" for testing.

There are not test kits at any price for regular people / business owners from what I understand. I just Googled it.

There is hope though.
Oh, I forgot. Trump and his friends won't make any money off it.
Nevermind.

... but that's not "every business".

That article is almost a month and a half old. There are businesses providing tests to their employees now. There are also businesses in areas where good masking/washing practices are sufficient... and even areas where no protection at all is probably acceptable.
Especially in the context of the alternative being people unable to support their families.

(90,301 posts)... yrs ago we didn't have ready testing and we still don't have it now.

(31,261 posts)I surely believe that we not only would have done lots of testing by now, but the nation would have a good handle on how to deal with this problem and people would be back working.

Explaining the issue to people from the standpoint that I don't want to get sick is a non-starter, that makes me look weak. The way that I approach the issue of mask wearing is that I feel perfectly fine, but I don't know whether I am a danger to other people who may be vulnerable to SARS-COV-2 infecting them, becoming COVID-19 and killing them. I expect everyone to take the same attitude about why a mask should be worn when around others, or find another job.

(2 posts)You do realize that testing an employee means they are negative IN THAT MOMENT, don't you? They can be infected one hour later. Or the next day. There is no way you can stay on top of that. You can test them all and in 2 hours any of them, or all of them, can be positive. IT's totally not feasible.

(212 posts)A test measures a state at a single point in time. That state could change at any point thereafter. Testing 2 to 3 times a week would help, but certainly doesn't mitigate all risk.
Case in point. Tests are done Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Employee tests negative Monday morning, gets infected Monday evening, and comes to work contagious on Tuesday. This contagion isn't revealed until Wednesday's test.
Also, and someone can correct me if i'm wrong but results aren't instantaneous.
So I test on Wednesday morning, and test results come back Wednesday afternoon. If i wasn't allowed to work between the time of the test and the time of the result, thats fine. But unless the employee is quarantined during the time while waiting for the results, the employee is at risk of contracting the virus during the interim.
Point? Testing isn't a panacea.

(95,241 posts)Of course I appreciate having things explained to me as if I were three years old, but if you thought me unaware of what you have laid out that was foolish.
It is always a mistake to make the perfect the enemy of the good, and what your position amounts to is just that --- that since infection after a test is made can occur, tests are neither advisable nor necessary.

Would be wrecked by C-19 full treatment bills....
With millions of cases, it's the right thing to do, anyway.
I'd go further and cover cremations too, it was $1100ish in total for one a couple year ago, first hand knowledge I didn't want, but it is what it is.
