Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) told CNN that wearing a mask to protect against coronavirus is “about loving your fellow human being,” saying he tells Ohioans to wear the face coverings even as they have become a political flashpoint amid the pandemic.

Said DeWine: “This is an instruction as old as the Bible. You are supposed to love your fellow man and woman, and that is what we are doing.”

5. He did at least acknowledge that Ohioans are not doing well

at wearing masks. He had hoped for 90% participation - it's nowhere near that, which he acknowledged.

Today was better than a week ago - about the same as two weeks ago. But today was a weekday (the other two trips were on weekends)

In one grocery store (where the store visibily works to comply with the law) there was about 90% mask wearing. Across the street in another similar sized grocery store (where the store is paying lip service to complying wtih the law) fewer than 50% of the customers were wearing masks. In the pet store - I was the only one (out of perhaps 20-25) - and employees were not consistently wearing them. This was in a relatively urban area. The pet store was perhaps 5 miles from the two grocery stores - but the grocery stores were literally catecorner across a main street so they serve the exact same population. I can only surmise that the difference is at least partly tied to the store messaging.
