(25,490 posts)I know a guy who sits on the board of Tastykake before it was sold to that other firm out of the south whose name I cant remember offhand. He said they were literally fist fights in the room when they wanted to change the name from Tandy Takes to Kandy Kakes.
Those of us who are older remember when the three chocolate cupcakes had wax paper wrapping and the icing used to stick to the wax paper. The ritual was you ate the cake part and then lick the icing off the wax paper. Also, before they open the new bakery, the pies did not come in a foil pan, and were much larger and tastier. At one time tasty cakes were sold only in the Philadelphia area because they were delivered fresh every day by people whose route from store to store was passed from generation to generation of drivers. When Hostess and other companies would try to infringe on this market, in general they failed terribly.
