About seven in 10 worry about safety
Thats surprisingly low considering the effort going into the global race for a vaccine against the coronavirus that has sparked a pandemic since first emerging from China late last year. But more people might eventually roll up their sleeves: The poll, released Wednesday, found 31% simply werent sure if theyd get vaccinated. Another 1 in 5 said theyd refuse.
Health experts already worry about the whiplash if vaccine promises like President Donald Trumps goal of a 300 million-dose stockpile by January fail. Only time and science will tell -- and the new poll shows the public is indeed skeptical.
Its always better to under-promise and over-deliver, said Dr. William Schaffner, an infectious disease specialist at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

(12,286 posts)I will not get some snake oil "vaccine" that trump unveils in mid-October and says you can have this magic elixir if you vote for me.
A true, safe, effective, and properly vetted vaccine will take at least 2 years to study, produce, and distribute. If they can find one that works, which is still just a maybe at this point.

(9,888 posts)the first year, at least. Kinda depends on what my Dr. says and whether he tends to push the status quo. I'm in the midst of changing doctors to someone I saw a couple years ago. He never went overboard with flu vaccine before, so we'll see. Too many references to "protocol" and I probably won't be using him to make a determination.

(10,749 posts). . . as long as it's one approved by responsible first-world organizations, and preferably one not made in the US. If Canada says it's okay, that counts. UK? Doesn't count. EU. Counts. Australia? I'm on the fence. Sweden? Nope. US only? As long as the crook is still in the oval office, nope. Can't trust him, or the vaccine, or the FDA, or the CDC.
So you have to take a look at this apparent anti-vaxxer polls. I'm not an anti-vaxxer. I get my annual flu shot, and I think I might get that pneumonia shot that's out there. Etc., etc. But anything promoted by this government, not a prayer. And that's the question that needs to be asked in these polls.
