Looks like Mitch McConnell did the right thing for once

From Politico:

‘There’s no stigma attached to wearing a mask’: McConnell makes plea in favor of face masks

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Wednesday made an extensive pitch for Americans to don face masks as a means to begin returning the country to normalcy while the coronavirus remains a threat.

“There’s no stigma attached to wearing a mask. There’s no stigma attached to staying six feet apart,” the Kentucky Republican said at an event back in his home state, referencing social distancing guidelines recommended to stem the transmission of the coronavirus.

...

McConnell’s comments targeted at young people came after images of Americans partying over Memorial Day weekend flooded social media and drew rebukes from local health officials.

“That’s not too much to ask of a younger person,” he said of wearing face coverings. “So to get through this next phase, as we ease back into normal, even if you’re in a low-risk category, do what we’re asking you to do for the good of others as we begin to move back to normal.”

I guess even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

Huge majorities of democrats and independents are wearing masks. Over half of republicans support them.

He sees that the whole Trump battle against the mask is just another nail in the coffin of their majority. It plays well with his mouth breathing base, but tanks in the suburbs and with older folks. Two groups they have to win convincingly. With only the evangelicals and racist, which are often overlapping on a Venn Diagram, they are a rump of a party.

Trumps stupidity and meanness are going to cost him the election. All he had to do was act like he was concerned with Americans lives and he would have not been blamed for the economy. Now he is being blamed for the Economy and not giving a shit about at risk Americans.

He's old and at high risk, therefore he sees the value in wearing a mask. Just like all the Republicans who hate gays until they realize one of their children is gay. Or who gun-humpers until one of their children gets shot. The problem is, we just can't wait for all of them to be personally affected by their own bullshit policies. It takes too long. And Republicans are incapable of imagining having a life that isn't exactly like THEIRS.

he gets no credit for "doing the right thing" unless he says the same thing on a Sunday morning on Fox News.

No credit to be given here. Moscow Mitch's age places him in COVID high risk group. Position is entirely consistent with self preservation phenotype.
