Sen Murphy: When I imagined the worst case scenario under Trump, I admittedly never imagined this.

Chris Murphy @ChrisMurphyCT

After Trump's incompetence causes 100,000 die from a deadly virus, he calls for the death of Democrats and protesters to be shot on sight.

When I imagined the worst case scenario under Trump, I admittedly never imagined this.

of groups that he is targeting and will target.

First it was Hispanics, with the claim that they were criminals for seeking asylum. As criminals, they could be dehumanized, put in cages, their children taken from them. Since he got away with that with minor protests, he feels free to target anyone else.

Actually, though, Hispanics were not the first. Soon as he was sworn in, he went after Muslim immigrants. Then journalists who did not agree with him, or who asked questions he did not like. Then it was Hispanics.

But he does not have a strong ideology like Hitler had. He has no ideology, except to hold power and make money. He derives his political power from RW extremists and racists, shares their views, and will threaten and act against anyone who challenges him or displeases him, but has no overall program about minorities.

He rewards people like Stephen Miller, and formerly, Bannon, and promotes the things they suggest. He favors Republicans in Congress and R governors who pass legislation and use executive orders to suppress minority and progressive votes, and who promote legislation and judicial decisions that favor the wealthy and harm minorities.

But he does not have an organized, coherent overall plan for cleansing the nation of people he despises. Not yet, anyway. He takes turns at attacking them. However, I believe that would change if he maintains power in November. If that happens, I would expect him to appoint someone to develop an ethnic/racial cleansing program for him.

which most Americans know very little about. They only know about his actions and atrocities after becoming dictator. Trump follows a similar pattern in many ways and there are some similarities in personality and character.

But there are differences, too. Making a detailed comparison would take too much time and space here. I would summarize a comparison by saying that Hitler was obsessively disciplined and organized while Trump is obsessively disorganized and chaotic. But toward the end, Hitler became more and more disorganized and insane.

Hitler formulated his own political philosophy and long range plans and wrote about them. Trump is too disorganized and rebellious to have that kind of mental discipline. But he has people close to him who share his racist views and can formulate plans for him.

and other leading lights in the white power movement. I suspect he's got the same degree of influence over Trump that Kissinger did over Nixon, if not more.

He definitely sees this moment as his opportunity to reshape America and the world and seems to believe that is why he is in the White House. He's the kind of paranoid sociopath who is sure he's on the right side of God and anything he thinks to do is the most important for the future of the white race.

I strongly believe he is the principal motivator behind much of the more horrid things Trump has said and done. Not that Trump would not have done them on his own but that his focus, the degree of hatred he expresses, and the way he does it are all shaped and coordinated by Miller to suit his personal agenda.

But I did not know that he had researched Hitler.

I'm sure that some of Trump's policies and positions have been developed by Miller, but I am also sure that they are totally in line with Trump's views. As for the degree of hatred that Trump expresses, it so genuinely part of who he is that he does not need anyone to help him express it.

Trump lacks the brains and self-discipline to develop plans and policies, so the people close to him are the brains for that. But Trump totally shares the feelings of supremacy and hatred that his close advisors have.

As certainly his vengeful responses are.

My point about Miller is that he's far more influential on the details and I suspect he's one of those who steer Trump where Trump says he wants to go.

I suspect that some of the really mean and ugly comes directly from him through Trump. Miller has that track record elsewhere. He picks someone who can front his ideas better than he can and teaches them to sing his tunes. He takes what is already nasty about Trump's methods and views and turns it up to 11 in ways Trump alone would not think to do. It has been said that Steve Bannon is quite jealous of how well Miller can play Trump's strings.

I look forward to a day when Miller, along with others, must stand in the prisoner's dock and hear the record read against him...And then face the jury who would surely hang him twice if possible.

As much as Trump is responsible for most of the deaths and the spread of COVID-19 in the US, Miller is responsible for what has happened in the ICE camps and many other atrocities. He is the policy wonk who gives teeth and claws to the application of Trump's monstrous beliefs.

They could not present this image without Trump. He could not get where he is without their collusion. They are a perfect storm together. Throw in Russian influence to complete the picture.

I suspect that some of the R players in this power grab are not willing. I think that some of the R's have been pressured into collusion by the use of compromising information. After all, Putin is an old hand at digging up dirt to exploit.

Trump has not exceeded my expectations domestically, including calling for murdering Democrats and protesters. And having to fight off potential pandemic disease has become so normal, that the possibility that disease could become a serious problem was obvious when Trump tried to eliminate the CDC and others and installed incompetent administrators.

What I didn't imagine is that sociopathic McConnell and company would watch pandemic disease come for the U.S. and deliberately refuse to take action to stop it. Maybe should have. Massive disruptions create great opportunities for bad actors to seize power illicitly, and the end was in sight for these bad actors.

but I didn't imagine the cause. I knew he'd bungle something so badly--the economy, foreign policy, massive deregulation--that he'd kill off a whole bunch of us through war, starvation, or industrial disaster. It was inevitable, given his utter unsuitability to the job and the fact that the billionaires are surrounding him with lackeys and wrecking balls to destroy the country so they can remake it as an Ayn Rand capitalist paradise.

I didn't anticipate a virus. I freely admit that. I anticipated a lot of people dying and the country in a shambles and decades of needing to rebuild relationships with allies and maybe a century of rebuilding America's trust in the democratic process.

However, I'm not surprised. I knew he'd fuck up and kill a lot of us. He is incapable of anything else.

For example: Did we ever think that the entire government would turn a blind eye to this outrage? No patriots here, no one to step up and save the country. No, I never imagined that this horror would get this far - and it's continuing. Just wait until tomorrow, next week, next month. It'll be a miracle if this country survives until November and ends this disaster.

I went to work that day wondering if I was the only one who felt that way. I was fairly quiet all day and realized that all the people around me in my department were dead silent other than absolutely necessary conversations regarding work matters. I worked at a university and the staff in my department were all pretty much liberal except for one woman whom I had to work closely with. There was a palpable feeling of incredulity as to what just happened, dread and fear of where the country would be headed, glumness and depression. I felt all of that. I had no idea what it would look like, but I had that gut instinct that this was going to be a disaster.

Little did I know.

Huh? In which universe does that make sense? In which world did Fat Donnie do anything to get the pandemic under control? The reason the death count is "only" 100,000 is that once it became clear that Trump wasn't going to take any action -- other than stealing ventilators and PPE and giving huge amounts of taxpayer money to his contributors, despite the law saying he couldn't -- the governors (mostly Democrats) took charge of their states and initiated lock down measures. Once those started to show results ("flatten the curve" ) Trump declared victory (which happened only because of him, of course) and whipped up his minions to storm the state capitols (once again, Democratic governors), carrying semi-automatic weapons and demanding their right to get themselves and their children infected.

He has turned wearing masks into a political issue. And I thought the anti-vaxxers were fools.

I find myself rooting for the coronavirus, as least as far as Fat Donnie is concerned

I'm sure we can rustle up a used ventilator and emblazon "Trump" on the side.

I would say Trump is an idiot, but that would be an insult to idiots.

81. I've been expecting a major catastrophe for awhile but yes, this is remarkably bad.

We have been teetering of the verge of major catastrophe for awhile now though if you think about it.

1. Trump screwed up North Korea - in a slightly different scenario that goes very badly wrong and well...

2. Trump has recklessly vacated the Iran nuclear deal and further stroked the fires by assassinating a Senior official. Yes, he was a vile person, nevertheless, the Administration had clearly not calculated the Iranian reaction and almost blundered into a major war.

3. Trump has continued to encourage ultra-right violent demonstrators.

4. Trump has proven he has no understanding of the gun crises in our country.

We have been teetering for sometime. It is not surprising that Trump's luck (and unfortunately, ours) has finally run out.

The evil 1/3 will help him do that while 1/3 stand by hoping the will be spared if they stay quiet. Then the quiet 1/3 will dwindle as they cannot be trusted due to their not having any real loyalties.

That will leave the 1/3 and what remains of the quiet 1/3 that crossed over to the evil 1/3 side. They will all now have to support and cater to the ruling class because that is what their lot in life will have become.

Folks, we are not that far away. You have no idea as to the extent of damage the evil 1/3 can do, especially with a maniacal leader who sanctions every evil action they take and a justice system that essentially gives them a green light.

My German grandmother (lived through both world wars) told me plenty of stories about the nightmares she endured, including the death of my grandfather for the capital offense of calling out corruption.

There is no bottom to Trump's depravity.

He would order the banks to default on Chinese creditors, order police to fire on protestors, even use nuclear weapons against Iran if he thought it would increase his chances of being reelected.

Depression, civil war, nuclear war...that's just three off the top of my head...

And I was absolutely devastated during the week of the inauguration.... I won't get into the night and right after election) So much so that I couldn't even go to the Women's March (that first year). Fortunately, I got better and was able to go to Swing Left meetings, more marches than I can count, and I want to commit the rest of this year to the 2020 election cycle (if I can find some funding since I need to work).

My imagination couldn't have been able to conceive of atrocities that have occurred...
