I just couldn't do that." When O'Donnell agreed that it must be hard to give a heartfelt eulogy like that, Trump interrupted him and "corrected" him. No, Trump said, I could never stand up there and look like such an asshole.

Taking these anecdotes together, it's easy to see that Trump can't give more to detached, abstract people than he can offer to people close to him. He isn't just amoral. He's asocial and devoid of compassion. Period.
