Caravan blocks streets in St. Paul to protest 'stay at home' order

It is odd that when stay at home protesters show up with guns and block streets it is still considered non-violent.

Protesters lined up in a caravan of cars blared their horns and blocked the streets surrounding the Minnesota State Capitol on Saturday in St. Paul.

The protest, part of "Operation Gridlock," called for Gov. Tim Walz's "stay at home" order to end and for Minnesotans to get back to work.

"Take the older people like myself. If you want to quarantine us, quarantine us. But let the younger people get back to work, let them do their jobs and support their families," said Terry McCall, one of the protesters.

Gov. Walz extended Minnesota's "stay at home" order for another two weeks on Thursday. Right now it's set to expire on May 18.

and people are in the streets protesting and burning buildings because of police brutality.

Not really much of a threat to their freedoms or even the vandals and looters.

The point is that you have Trump cheering on armed protestors who are storming government buildings, blocking traffic, tearing down barricades to public attractions, but then turning around and condemning protesters of police brutality as armed thugs.

The point is that Trump can't cheer lead for one group of people to break the law, then suddenly insist upon a law an order approach to protesters of police violence.

Michigan has been a hotbed for anti-lockdown demonstrations, with protests taking place throughout the month of April. Whitmer, a Democrat, has stoked the ire of some Republicans by instituting some of the strictest social distancing measures. Republican state lawmakers have taken steps to curtail her power. On Thursday, the Republican-led House voted to sue Whitmer to challenge her authority in combatting the pandemic.

Despite the protests and the Republican opposition, polls have shown broad approval for Whitmer’s response. A Detroit Regional Chamber poll earlier this month showed that 57% of Michigan residents approve of Whitmer’s coronavirus response compared to 37% who do not. Michigan reports over 41,000 cases of coronavirus and nearly 3,800 deaths as of Thursday, an increase of just under 1,000 cases and 119 deaths from the previous day.

Whitmer, who is in her first term as governor, has been commonly mentioned as one of the leading candidates to be Joe Biden’s running mate. She rose to national prominence earlier this month when President Trump derisively referred to her as “that woman from Michigan,” and instructed Vice President Mike Pence not to call her about distribution of medical equipment. The incident spawned commemorative shirts emblazoned with the phrase.
