snip--"Democratic House Minority Leader Emilia Sykes received a call from an unknown man on May 23 calling from her fathers phone number, threatening to kill him if she didnt step aside politically, according to a police report released Friday.
The suspect claimed he had her father, Democratic state Senator Vernon Sykes, captive. He told her not to contact the police."
snip--" Emilia Sykes hung up the phone and called the number belonging to her father. Her father then answered the phone."
snip--" Dennis Willard, a spokesman for the Sykes family, said Friday they will continue to respect the wishes of investigators and declined comment."

This is an astounding and startling story.

I was fortunate to be a part of a class that included a poet laureate, politicians, Doctors, Lawyers, teachers all of color. People who've added to the richness and security of life in Akron and the rest of the state. The Sykes, the Oddams, the Doves, the Moores, the Parhams. And I got to be there among them.
I'm the fortunate one, they all had promise and made successes of their lives.
