What is to keep him from grabbing a Bible and just swear himself in.
And what if he refuses to get on the chopper that takes him out of D.C after Biden is sworn in?

And presidents don't swear themselves in; the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court has to do that. He'll be busy swearing in someone else.

(68,478 posts)And I know Presidents don't do it. I was just having a bad dream. I hope they have him tranquilized on Jan. 20, 2021. That's the only way he can be controlled.

(131,231 posts)His elevation to emperor had been overwhelmingly approved by the citizens of France by a constitutional referendum; and his coronation of himself during the ceremony was just a symbolic gesture that didn't change his status. If, however, Fat Nixon tried to swear himself in even though he had just been voted out of office, that action would not make him the president.

I am betting that his aides will have his meds at the ready on Jan. 20.

Yes, he will make a fuss if he loses and try to disrupt the transition process, but once Congress certifies the Electoral College results, its over.

Rs in congress have backed his play nearly every time.
If Joe wins big they might fracture off enough Rs to get it done, but if it is close it very well could get really hairy.

(38,337 posts)The presidency isn't a shiny marble that he could snatch and swallow rather than give up. Him swearing himself back in has no legal weight of any kind. He'd be Nora Desmond informing Mr. DeMille that she's ready for her close-up.
And if he doesn't take the chopper, he gets stuffed into a limo and driven to the airport.
