End the Violence - This Is The Time To Demand an Expanded Voters Rights Act!

The working class and minorities have long been ignored and exploited by the 1 percent. It often seems that the suffering felt by them is ignored until civil unrest begins at which point the far right uses such unrest to justify even more oppressive acts.

You have a President who wants to shut up his critics and is eager to suppress the vote of millions of Americans in the midst of a pandemic whether it is insisting on voter ID laws, restricting voting hours and polling sites, to opposing vote by mail.

When you take away the voice of the people at the ballot box, and you have the screaming heads on right wing media pushing your lies, you leave the no means to express their discontent except through destruction and violence.

Joe Biden and Democrats should take this opportunity to emphasize the importance and need to protect the right to vote with expanded voting hours and access. Instead of one polling site in a congested area that is only open on one day, early voting should be expanded. Access to vote by mail should also be expanded.

In the 1960s, Malcolm X delivered a speech entitled, the Ballot or the Bullet. Even though he is sometimes portrayed as a violent revolutionary, he too understood that political oppression will ultimately lead to resentment and revolution. Malcolm X understood the significance of the Voting Rights Act and how it provided a peaceful avenue for political expression.

As was the case in the 1960s, Democrats should offer a non-violent way forward, which is too demand access to the ballot box for everyone.
