And it reminds me one of the scandal that a sign interpreter for some press conference was a fake and actually was signing gibberish a couple years ago.

Not trying to say she is a fake. It's just that her signs didn't quite line up with what he was saying. But that's from a completely untrained eye with zero knowledge in signing.

That was after this one:

Somehow, I always thought there were approved interpreters on tap for things like this. Apparently not.

Which I had also thought of while watching the news conference today. I posted video of not one, but two fakes from the past.

My comment about having approved interpreters on call was just an observation based on those two previous situations.

I find it hard to look at the governor while she's there. Love her! She should have a fan club. Actually, I bet she does.

The signers at DeWine’s pressers.

Marla Berkowitz is deaf herself, and relays her signing from another hearing person in the audience. And I have learned that facial expressions are an integral part of the translations.

It’s exhausting both physically and mentally, which is why during long pressers she and another interpreter, Lena Smith, often share the responsibility.

Facial expressions also convey meaning. I like her and have learned a few new signs. Since I know a little (very little), I can only catch a few words here and there, but it allows me to pick up other signs.
