Former top Justice Department official warns Trump may 'not cede power'

A former top Justice Department official told Yahoo News she is deeply worried that President Trump could “delegitimize a lawful election” this November “and not cede power.”

Vanita Gupta ran the civil rights division at the Department of Justice from 2014 to 2017 and is now part of an informal, bipartisan group that has spent the past year preparing for Trump to potentially contest the results of the election. She argued the president’s attacks on vote-by-mail programs signal that he intends to say the election was unfair and should not be considered legitimate if he loses.

“He's already talking about how this will be a rigged election and saying if more and more people are voting using these so called mail-in ballots, that the election will be rigged,” Gupta told Yahoo News’ “Skullduggery” podcast. “This is out of a playbook.”

Gupta said she believes that while some people might consider her fears a “cuckoo crazy conspiracy theory,” she says the group she is working with anticipated Trump’s attacks on vote-by-mail programs. She sees those attacks as a deliberate attempt to undermine the election well in advance of voters casting ballots.

then,
Biden will order the military to take him physically out of the White House, and the military will obey President Biden, not Trump. Take that to the Bank ..Trump cannot stay in the White House if he loses.

That is exactly what will happen, and Trump knows it. The military will obey President Joe Biden, and will take Trump out of the White House by force

Trump will look like the total fool he is if he tries that trick. Imagine the scene, Trump being carried out in a chair by force & taken away by military police...

If and when Joe Biden is certified by the EC as the winner based on the results of the November 3 Election, Trump ceases to have any power on Inauguration Day in January. There's pretty much no way he can maintain power and I don't think that he has the unswerving loyalty of enough of the Federal Government, Military, or any other national institution to remain in power past his expiration date. If and when he loses, he will yell, scream, and cry and rage-tweet for the next 3 months but if there's no bipartisan agreed-upon reason to challenge the election results and the EC- which is also not in Trump's pocket- says he's the loser, he's gone when the Constitution says he's gone. Sure, we need to remain vigilant and make sure to call out any attempted electoral shenanigans and be watchful after the Election, but he can't pull a 50-state coup.

Your concerns are well-founded based on Bush V. Gore. However, otherwise, it would be hard to see under what circumstances SCOTUS would engage in a wider invalidation of results.

Somebody asked him if he would accept the results of the election. He said, "I will if I win!" He said that with a shit-eating grin on his ugly orange face.

If we vote that con man out of office in November and he refuses to leave, I think that will be a GOOD problem for us to have, because I'm sure he won't be able to get away with it. It's a problem I wish we'd had in November 2016.

Hopefully, it will be more on the order of an irrefutable blowout, especially if we manage to hold the House and take the Senate. Odds are, Biden could potentially pick off some unexpected red Trump state like maybe Arizona. I also feel a lot better this year about our odds in states like Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, which Hillary only narrowly lost due to a rare confluence of events that are unlikely to repeat this year.

Letitia Ann "Tish" James is an American lawyer, activist, and politician.

She is a member of the Democratic Party, and is the Attorney General of New York having won the 2018 election.

I'm not ruling out a SDNY charge on RICO grounds too, though (although a FL Pardon would automatically constitute a Guilty plea).
