But I get it, Barr and Trump were always lying. We all knew it.

We know RW white supremacists and other agents who need to defeat liberalism and the Democratic Party are behind the setting of hundreds of fires all over the nation. We have no big problem in this nation that isn't directly attributable to the extremists who've taken over our right, and now of course the foreign enemies colluding with them.

(26,355 posts)They're not the idiots just throwing bricks at cops for grins.
They're the ones who are doing things like waving people away from broken storefronts & stopping looters, or who are putting up a shield wall against charging riot cops so others can get away.

(25,238 posts)Another concern is the misapplication of the label antifa to include all counter-protesters, rather than limiting it to those who proactively seek physical confrontations with their perceived fascist adversaries. It is critical to understand how antifa fit within the larger counter-protest efforts. Doing so allows law enforcement to focus their resources on the minority who engage in violence without curtailing the civil rights of the majority of peaceful individuals who just want their voices to be heard.
All forms of antifa violence are problematic. Additionally, violence plays into the victimhood narrative of white supremacists and other right-wing extremists and can even be used for recruiting purposes. Images of these free speech protesters being beaten by black-clad and bandana-masked antifa provide right wing extremists with a powerful propaganda tool.

(33,298 posts)There is probably overlap, but Black Bloc is not focused on fighting Fascists. They are Anarchists, and typically young and idealistic. Black Bloc doesn't loot. The 2 skinny white gals you've seen video of, spray painting, being confronted by Af-Am protestors, and wearing all black? Black Bloc.
They did most of the smashing at the WTO in Seattle, back in the hazy mists of time. 1999. Those kids are now in their 40s, but there will always be young people discovering Punk Rock and Anarchy.
I vastly prefer that to Brown Shirts and MSSAs.

(7,408 posts)out of state instigators could be "behind the protests". They quickly backtracked on that one within a day. I've been watching live feeds for two days, looks like a diverse group of people under the age of 30 doing most of the peaceful protesting and violent destruction and looting.
Their original claim just made them look silly in my opinion.

(19,559 posts)While it was a horrific event and another uncalled for death of a black man in police custody, it was yet one more in an extremely long line of such events. A blindingly, mind numbingly, decades and decades long line which just keeps getting longer.
That's what all this is really about. George Floyd's murder was a catalyst, but it's most definitely not the cause.

The conspiracy theory, mainly disseminated by supporters of President Trump under the names The Storm and The Great Awakening
QAnon's precepts and vocabulary are closely related to the religious concepts of millenarianism and apocalypticism, leading it to be sometimes construed as an emerging religious movementhas been widely characterized as "baseless", "unhinged",and "evidence-free". Its proponents have been called "a deranged conspiracy cult"and "some of the Internet's most outré Trump fans".

(2,626 posts)They talk about increasing the vibrational frequency of the planet from 3D to 5D and that tRump is going to bring light into the planet because he is filled with light energy. These people channel space aliens from different galaxies and give people words of encouragement. Not kidding here.
I watched a couple of the You Tube videos. The comments were eye opening. People believe that tRump is speaking to them in code. They seem to take random events such as the exact time on the clock or the number of seconds into a video presentation as signs of affirmation that tRump and the space aliens will save the world.
They're all about the peace and love thing. It's just that tRump is the main character in their "Salvation of the Earth" scenario.

(8,035 posts)I would have considered myself a "new-ager" (I prefer "new-thought" because of the negative connotation) because of what my spiritual beliefs are (meditation, positive thinking, NORMAL things) but I have one friend that I've posted about on DU before and she doesn't even know who QAnon is. Having said that, she believes the whole Bill Gates is killing people with his vaccinations (she's an anti-vaxxer), Hollywood and other politicians (she knows better than to mention names to me) are running child sex trafficking ring, and other things that are just off the charts. At one point I told her in a conversation that this topic is off limits for me.
I've known her for over 20 years and she recently moved back to her home state (Arizona) last summer. She's been a wonderful friend, is a very good person, is bright in many way but has NO CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS what-so-ever. Whenever I ask her what her source is she'll say something like either she read it somewhere or heard it somewhere and then she'll change the subject or dodge the question. And, she follows people like David Icke, David Wilcock, and I think a guy named Brian Rose (who are MAJOR conspiracy theorists -I've heard some of what they have to say and it's frightening).
Here's an article about dt retweeting something from "Q":

(21,428 posts)Coast to Coast? It's on AM radio from about 1:00 am to 5:00 am Eastern time. Nory claims on the show to be politically neutral, but he is ultra RW. He is pals with Roger Stone and had him on as a guest a few times. Besides RW politics, the show is about anything and everything "out of the ordinary." Space aliens, UFO kidnappings, ghosts and hauntings, ancient aliens as sources of human life on earth and of ancient civilizations. Totally non-critical. Anything goes on that show. They have in-person meet-ups, a dating app to meet other "like minded" people for romance, etc.
That program might well be the source of blurring reality with insanity and New Age beliefs. I used to work overnight shift and would catch this program on my nights off when I couldn't sleep. I listened for laughs until some of the subtle racism toward AA's and overt BS about Native Americans turned me off too much to listen.

(21,428 posts)to get an idea of what it presents, and how. In my opinion, it exists solely to influence the gullible and the borderline sanity types to RW politics.
I haven't listened to it for over a year, but I think it's still on the air. Wednesday nights won't give a clear example of the program because it's his infomercial night when the same guy each week promotes a series of vitamins, minerals, and various concoctions only available through him. That guest promotes himself as a medical expert, but as far as I know, is not a doctor or nutritionist.
So Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday nights would be best to get an idea of what the program is like. It is very heavy on commercials. It's a call-in show for listeners to ask questions of the guest of the night. I have heard people claim to be descended from inter-planetary aliens. Others talk about shadow people and the Nephalim mentioned in Genesis.
RW political views are smoothly woven into the show by various comments from Nory and guests so that people don't realize the political garbage they are being fed.
