...is to be standing behind the black folks, supporting them in what they say, rather than standing in front of them and presuming to speak for them. Except when the paddy wagon pulls up. Then it's time to stand in front of them, and try to be taken in their place.

That's the philosophy followed by my young daughter's friends who are active in the protests, and it makes me proud.

We do of course see some others who try to hijack the protests for their own ends, whether it be for kicks 'n' giggles, the acquisition of some loot, or some really dark and sinister objective of chaos and mayhem. I hope the protesters are able to reject and eject those.
