Atlanta mayor, asked if Trump can deliver a unifying message: He's "capable of reading one."

ATL Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms asked right now on CNN if President Trump is capable of delivering a unifying national message:

“I think he is capable of reading one.”

Editing to add a CNN New Day tweet with a 6+ minute video clip of the interview. The comments above start at 5:18:

his response is, and that the death and destruction would've been much greater without his expert involvement.

if you don't mean it, if your heart is not in it. She must be dreaming if she thinks anything trump can say can sooth wounds even if he's capable of reading one.

he would devolve further into rambling over a coup and the persecution he feels just because Putin is on his speed dial.

Brilliant. So sharp, the "slicee" doesn't feel it at first.

I agree with the general sentiment, though. The prepared statement would have to include very small words. And Trump's rendition of such would be wooden and blatantly insincere.

Also, the only way to keep him from going off script for something like that would be to drug him or rig him up to electrodes that would buzz if a single word --written in GIANT letters--was misread or added. [Pardon me while I smile blissfully at a certain image in my brain.]

when the president reads a speech he doesn't believe a word of, written for him by somebody who doesn't believe a word of it either.

Whatever "good" it might do will be undone by the next tweet or press spray.
