General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI've just moved to favoring Susan Rice as the V.P candidate (from Elizabeth)
Rice is smart as hell, tough as nails, incredible resume - very Presidential.
Val Demmings is my second choice.
How do others here feel about Rice for this pick?

(16,616 posts)Absolutely drop-dead brilliant with massive expertise in foreign relations. She can think at the speed of light and defend herself and others against any attack. She cannot be surprised by any question. She never sounds rehearsed. She has a base of knowledge that is superior. She can speak on any subject at a moment's notice.
I've seen DUers say, "Oh, but they'll drag up Benghazi" but my response is, no matter who the nominee is they will fling crap at them, and Susan Rice without a single doubt can defend herself.
Kamala is my #2.

(7,800 posts)Benghazi will backfire completely. Nobody f-cking cares about that bullshit story at this point!

(1,786 posts)She has the brains and experience. And would be a great President should something happen to Biden, or to take over for Biden in four years.

(7,800 posts)Going there would look ridiculous - with pandemic, a depression, racial tensions high, cities burning... (not to mention a lunatic who's been impeached and his hiding out in a bunker tweeting inflammatory messages.
Beng...what?

(17,377 posts)I like her quite a bit, but why rehash all the Benghazi nonsense in the middle of a campaign?
She is more than capable, but it would be unnecessary controversy. I think she will be a leading candidate for Secretary of State
ElementaryPenguin
(7,800 posts)Benghazi is about as dead an issue as there is.
tritsofme
(17,377 posts)Her association with the controversy is completely unfair, but presidential campaigns are about winning.
She simply does not by my estimation help the ticket more than or equal to any other potential candidate not associated with such a controversy. There are better options.
ElementaryPenguin
(7,800 posts)Though there certainly are many other good ones.

(17,377 posts)A VP nominee should first do no harm, and there is just nothing positive for Bidens campaign with rehashing all the Benghazi nonsense.
Bidens calculations extend further than the left he is trying to win a national election.
uponit7771
(90,335 posts)... getting your logic here.
Faux plays to 35% of the electorate which didn't win Trump the election the last time it was 3% of the left who voted 3rd party in swing states that did
tritsofme
(17,377 posts)I would be shocked if she was picked.

(7,800 posts)Biden thinks very highly of her. So does Obama.

(90,335 posts)... the middle why would anyone care about them?
If you have any polling now that the middle or the left gives a damn about Bhengazi I'll take them.
thx

Maybe Tim Kaine is available ...

(63,912 posts)Funny how we look a these potential VP candidates and they are all DAZZLING! And I don't mean their looks: offering diversity, solid backgrounds, past achievements. We have an excess of riches before us. Biden is one lucky candidate. And we can be one lucky country if we just get this done as Dems! We have the talent! It's up to us to get this done, Dems!

(16,095 posts)Benghazi...she lied...over and over and over and over.
And you know it will be because she was the one who got picked to go on the Sunday shows.
ETA: I don't think she lied, she told what they knew at the time, but that's what the messaging from the other side will say.

(56,828 posts)but, my concern is that she's never run for elected office. I think she'd do a great job, however, and I would love to see her as Secretary of State

Biden and his team will need to get legislation passed to help right the ship of state.
The VP will need to caucus with leadership, whips, and legislative bill authors.
