Rise and Rise Again

Bare with me...

As things were really coming apart this weekend, I was watching a movie as a distraction. It was the Ridley Scott/Russell Crowe prequel of sorts of Robin Hood from 2010.

There is a quote in that movie that gets a lot of attention:

Rise and Rise again, until the lambs have become lions

It's part of a much larger line from a book from a guy who was an alternative religious leader of sorts, which as an atheist, I'm obviously not endorsing, but the quote struck me as incredibly timely and amazingly relevant.

Not going to give the whole excerpt but the part that seemed so eerily specific to our times:

And when they seek
to oppress you
And when they try
to destroy you,
Rise and Rise again
and again
Like The Phoenix
from the ashes
Until the Lambs
have become Lions
and the Rule of Darkness
is no more

Let us all rise from this darkness together, stronger and better than we were.

one with my daughter, one with my best friend. So much anger over cops murdering people. Among my Facebook friends, many post expressing anger and angst about the killings. I am white, and I wish I knew what I could do to make things change.
When I was growing up and attending an all-white school system outside of Cleveland, my teachers added resources to our classwork intended to open our minds, encourage growth and insight. I know there were almost 30 kids in every class, and I know that many of them grew up to be racists, in spite of the teachers' efforts. My daughter feels the same way about her classmates from her school system in a rural part of our state. How do kids sitting in the same class end up so different?
