2 officers fired after video shows college students pulled from car, tased

Two Atlanta Police officers have been terminated after they were accused of using unnecessary force when they arrested two college students during protests Saturday night in Atlanta.

Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms made the announcement during a briefing on the third night of scheduled protests in Atlanta Sunday night.

It was around 9:30 p.m. Saturday when Atlanta Police officers were seen on video pulling a young man and woman out of a car.

An officer at the scene - who was in Atlanta Police gear - told 11Alive crews on the scene that officers signaled the car to stop because another officer was in the road. The officer said when the driver didn't comply, police surrounded the car.

Repercussions and accountability no matter how small. It will get across to cops. And the cops that just stand there and not address are as guilty.

stopped by police. The police had to chase the car down the street. That was before the video we've all seen. One can certainly question whether they needed to be stopped in the first place, but they did try to drive off -- not smart.

Here's the video that shows the minutes before the video that went viral. Start about 2:35, they drive a few feet after being stopped and then drive off again at 3:20 and police start running after them:

None of this was necessary, but I think these two policeman at least deserve another look to see if some other punishment is more appropriate.

(although some of the crappiest video ever!)
Have to agree that maybe there was some excessive force (tasing). But the LE have a right to be pissed off. Shots fired situation (which puts everyone on edge). And then, you've already demonstrated failure to obey and flight once ... Yeah, they're gonna' be mad at you! And, yeah .. this time they're gonna' get you outta' the damned car!

So, yeah .. long and short .. unfortunate, but nobody really gets a passing grade in this college course.

career.

In fact, I think I read that the two officers were usually assigned to inmate care, or something like that. Sounds like a guard. Then, they get put out on the street in this situation. The college students definitely drove off.

Like you said, "nobody really gets a passing grade in this college course."

On the other hand, abuse of power needs to stop.
