IMO the protest movement should declare tactical victory and go home for a while

probably not a popular opinion on DU but there is logic to this -

the purpose of the protests are to make demands, express anger, be heard. I think that mission is accomplished, a tactical victory. The long term strategy is positive change.

Sad to say bad actors have hijacked the movement for their own various reasons to engage in
negative behaviors, and that's what the media wants - riot, looting, arson, stuff that makes for good TV visuals.

so now enters trump and company, who want blood, which makes for the best TV and he's a TV guy who knows. Withdrawal of the protests cuts the legs under the bad actors and reduces the chances of Trump getting his blood.

The movement needs to go into phase two which is doing what is needed to actually get the change it wants.

Of course once trump gets his blood there may not be elections and the movement gets nothing for
its efforts.

Live to fight another day another way.

The very fact that this is happening is because nothing has changed. As I said, peaceful attempts are ignored again and again. People are angry because they're terrified for the lives of their loved ones, friends and family.

It also ignores a plethora of racial disparities which have lead to many of the current issues people not effected by them like to ignore.

I think the public is very close to protest fatigue, if not there already. The next step is that they become inured to it. Then you've lost the tactic for future use.

Personally, I'm tired of the lazy news work, just minute after minute after minute of masked reporters marching with crowds doing nothing terribly compelling. I would rather hear analysis from historians and analysts but TV being what it is, that is second fiddle to field reporters breathlessly saying a lot of nothing and itching for something sensational.
