Pelosi, Schumer say treatment of protesters outside White House 'dishonors every value that faith teaches us'

By Justine Coleman - 06/01/20 11:32 PM EDT

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) condemned the use of tear gas on peaceful protesters outside of the White House in a joint statement Monday.

The two top Democrats in Congress said the forced removal of the protesters from outside Lafayette Park “dishonors every value that faith teaches us.”

“At a time when our country cries out for unification, this President is ripping it apart,” Pelosi and Schumer said. “Tear-gassing peaceful protestors without provocation just so that the President could pose for photos outside a church dishonors every value that faith teaches us.”

Pelosi and Schumer called on President Trump, law enforcement and “all entrusted with responsibility to respect the dignity and rights of all Americans.”

“Together, we must insist on the truth that America must do much more to live up to its promise: the promise of liberty and justice for all, which so many have sacrificed for – from Dr. King to John Lewis to peaceful protestors on the streets today,” the statement reads.

“At this challenging time, our nation needs real leadership. The President’s continued fanning of the flames of discord, bigotry and violence is cowardly, weak and dangerous.”

Starve the fucking beast!

They don't up understand anything except money, and money gives them power.

CUT OFF THEIR FUCKING FUNDING

Call for a National Strike!

These fascist won't come to the table, negotiate, or do ANYTHING until the Dow hits 1,000.

How many times do you have to pass bills under the impression that the Retrumplicans will do something to stop this march to fascism?

Might as well ask a battered spouse how many broken bones it takes before they get out?

You can't give these people shit to help the economy or the country. They will NEVER use it for that purpose...they will only use it to advance their agenda at the expense of others.

What we witnessed yesterday was full on fascism and a slap on Trump’s tiny hands will not stop him.
