One shot attempting to loot a gun shop by the store owner (occurred inside the store)

There was a string of ATM bombings last night in Philly as well
https://6abc.com/several-atms-vandalized-overnight-in-philly/6226433/
It appears the bomber messed up eventually and fatally blew himself up

(excuse the Fox article for the last one, only source I could find)
Sounds like some more serious thieves are using this unrest as cover. The group robbing the gunshop were armed and organized, and the ATM bomber is also not your common rioter.

(5,557 posts)philly has had periodic ATM thefts using explosives for years, but never many in a night like this
but you are right, it does have a bad tone to it, 'more serious thieves' is probably more accurate and doesn't have the same baggage. I'll change it

(18,770 posts)...'cause it really looks way more like that to me.

(9,893 posts)three guys thought looting a gunshop was a good idea. They were shot by the owner, who, not unsurprisingly, decided his store was a possible target of looters and decided to stay there overnight.

(1,773 posts)Words matter. We need to stop using the favorite go-to phrases that both doctrinaire racists and our lying corporate media uses. They should be properly described as "protestors" until we have all the facts regarding these individual incidents.

(2,971 posts)and you would prefer that they be described as "protestors"?
jcmaine72
(1,773 posts)Why are they immediately being connected to the protests? Use of the word "looter" implies (at least as our media has been using that word) that they were part a demonstration and decided to commit an act of burglary. How do we know the crime wasn't premeditated? Who brings bolt cutters to a march?
Never trust our media. There's always more to these stories that they never deign to cover later on because they can't drum up fear and clicks with the truth.
Amishman
(5,557 posts)Using explosives to destroy then rob an ATM is not a protest, it is theft and a violent crime.
an armed group breaking into a gun shop is not an act of protest either.
by attempting to get rioters and looters considered to be protestors, you are doing the right's work for them and undermining those peacefully protesting to try and bring about change.

verb
gerund or present participle: looting
steal goods from (a place), typically during a war or riot.
"police confronted the rioters who were looting shops"

(1,773 posts)See my post above. If they're burglars, call them that. The word looter is a loaded term being used by our scumbag media and the weak-minded to smear otherwise peaceful protests.
Amishman
(5,557 posts)and I will restate that including these violent crimes as part of the overall protest is absolutely undermining the actual protests
